I have a clean build that my corsiar 650tx just puked. When I went to get a new one someone suggested that I had the wrong kind/type of PS. I was wondering what I should buy to power this thing up, and what i need if they want to add a vid card in the future?

A bad experience with a Corsair? That's rare. Have you contacted Corsair about this? They may be willing to replace it.

As for what to get, any 500-600W PSU made by a reputable company will be plenty for all single card setups and nearly all Crossfire setups. I wouldn't put more than a 4890 CF on a 600W PSU. As for what manufacturer to choose, I'm a big fan of Corsair and Seasonic. If I were you, I'd get another 650TX. And definitely talk to Corsair about your first one failing.

I would definitely call corsair... I think they have a 3 year warranty on the PSU's but I could be wrong. I have the 620HX and it's been perfect for a year now

I have three brands I trust, Thermaltake, PC Power and Cooling, and Corsair. The new Toughpower XT series has been getting a lot of attention, since they have managed to add more wattage per amp meaning more wattage for less power. As a result, it can take more heat allowing you to have a PSU for at least 3 years. This is reliable yet has great stability but Corsair is better at stability while PC Power and Cooling are the kings. However, they add a couple more amps in order to achieve this so be ready to pay up on your electricity bill if you buy PSUs from Corsair and/or PC P and C.

Another good brand is OCZ, since the parts are provided by PC P and C, they are more like hybrid versions of PC P and C's latest generation of PSUs, so you can get less connectors and so on if you go OCZ like I did.

Underline is mine.

I think you're misusing some terms. Wattage is directly proportional to amperage. If you add more amps, you get more wattage. If you add more wattage, then you've added more amps. So you have to increase them both, you cannot add one while the other stays constant. Also wattage is power. So I don't really get what you're saying....

Also, just because PC P&C is owned by OCZ does not make OCZ PSUs the same quality as PC P&C. PC P&C is not an OEM afaik. So that means that PC P&C does not make thier own PSUs. OCZ is also not an OEM. OCZ uses different OEMs than PC P&C. So the people that make OCZ PSUs are different from the people that make PC P&C PSUs. So I don't think you can say they're of the same quality because they are part of the same company.

Sorry if this seems hostile

I think what PCpraiser means is more ampage on the 12v rail, under the same wattage PSU.

For example and el cheapo 600W cheats to get its 600W status, by

A, beefing up the 3.3 and 5v rails unnecessarily
B, labeling the peak wattage.

Whereas a decent 600W PSU has more reasonable 3.3 and 5v rails, while beefing up the 12v rail which is more important. That and all the decent companies advertise by continuous power output.
