GTX 275 + E8400 = good match?

I game @ 1280x1024 with 4xAA. More than enough for me, for a long time.

you'll be disappointed on the games i mentioned, if you think low resolution can save you from crappily coded games.


(dont take this as me saying the 275 is a bad choice or anything, i agreed earlier in the thread. its just that your thinking its going to last you ages and max every game is... overly optimistic)

I've got two 4870's and i run into games i cant max out with a stable framerate, because they are shittily coded games. Crysis, Cryostasis, Sins of a solar empire - please dont just assume that because its faster than what you have, its going to be perfect.

if a GTX 275 could run every last game with max details at high resolution... why the F**k would anyone buy a 285, 295, or run SLI or crossfire?

There are quite a few more. My GTX280 which hits a higher core speed than a lot of 285s out there and I can't max out Fallout 3 or Oblivion with a bunch of mods. I can't even come close to maxing out Darkplaces. GTA4 and Crysis and I'm not even talking modded and I'm sure that there are a few more. There are even more games that I can't force as much AA as I would like. Keep in mind I'm only running 1920x1080.

I thought it would be good to let you know that at the resolution I mentioned, there's no game that my 8800GT can't handle. Seriously.

I care a lot more about texture and effect details than I care about resolution.

The only reason I'm thinking of upgrading, is not because my 8800gt doesn't run any games, but because I want something more powerful.

I played Cryostasis and Crysis / Crysis warhead.

Those games are exceptions to the rule.

Even the most high-end card available today will have trouble maxing out these games.

And apart from these games, my 8800gt can run any game acceptably.

Yep. I can't max everything on my OCed 8800GT 1GB on a 1440x900 screen. It's still a decent card, but it's past it's prime. Newer games are just gonna get worse and worse on the hardware punishment scale.

yea, try running stalker clear sky max at 1280x1024 and i garentee you'll lag with your 8800GT, i kno i do with my HD 4870.

Of course I want to play @ maximum details, otherwise I wouldn't be considering dumping my 8800GT!

And btw, GTX 275 is more than enough to max out any game. What the hell are you talking about?

so like i say if you look for max details better think about GTX285 , and if you look for max details with high AA forget the GTX275 , GTX295 will be best chose but it is expensive so go for good overcloking GTX 285 .

E8400 is a gr8 choice...but try to wait for dx11 gpu's....8800gt is a gr8 card....i am using 9800gt for 22" lcd....works fine at max resolution and settings

The 8400 certainly is a good processor. However, GTA IV, FSX, Empire Total War will still not run smoothly with it (they should, but they won't).

i too have been deciding on whether or not to go with a gtx275 or stick with my 8800gt. All I play, the 8800gt can handle. I think you should hold out until the next bunch of cards come out. Keep saving your money.

I gotta agree with this statement. GTX275 is due for a price decrease when DX11 parts hit. As far as running at 1280z1024 it wouldn't be a bad card (and I think better than a GTX 260 simply because you'll be able to max your details and such). It would also give you a bit more future proofing if you upgrade your monitor.

I used to run Fallout 3 on a GTX280 with 4x AA and max filtering and got around 60fps. Crysis was very playable with just one GTX280. At 1280x1024 he'd be fine with the Wolfdale and 275.
