Ok so i'm trying to hit the 4GHz mark with my Q6600 using an Abit IP-35. The thing is that when I set the vcore to 1.61 or higher, the system will not boot. Sometimes the PC will even turn off in BIOS when my vcore and northbridge are set to 1.55v+.

Is it maybe that my 600W OCZ PSU ain't enough?

I've also managed to get 1.65v northbridge, although I need to increase voltages one step at a time, because setting it immediately to high voltage will fail to boot.

Well it could be lack of power. It could also be that P35's were never really all that good at overclocking quads, though some were. You most definitely shouldn't need that many volts on the NB for a P35.

Anyways, how many amps are on the 12v rail for your PSU?

Methinks you have plenty of power.

The CPU prolly can't hit 4GHz stable. Most Q6600s top out at around 3.6.

dunno, my friend managed to get 4.1ghz and his VID is 1.28v, and mine is 1.27v

anyway, the problem here is that I can't feed my cpu 1.61v+ for some reason, no matter how high or low the fsb is

...so is it a gamextreme, modxtreme, stealthxtreme?

If your computer is shutting down, it could be the PSU doing it or it could be the temp protection kicking in, etc.

4.1GHz is pretty rare. Each chip is different so some OC better than others. And I think the general consensus is that VID doesn't have much to do with max OC. No real data supporting or contradicting this though.

As for the voltage issue, try 3.5GHz @ 1.6v. If it boots, then you know that the board can do the voltage and the CPU clock is just too high. If it doesn't boot than you know the board is at fault.

U need some serious cooling to make it happen. I made it and it was kinda stable. Mine drev 154W under load.
How were you measuring CPU power? 150W @ 1.61v seems low. But what kind of cooling did you have? Great clock!

i doubt its temperature issue, i was below 60 degrees on cores

Update: I managed to get 1.61v once, but had other voltages a little bit lower than usual.

So, please, any ideas why my computer fails to boot on high voltages?
