It seems everyone's pretty sure it won't fit in my case.

But I will be posting pics as soon as I find a 5970 in stock to buy.

My husband's got a 'scissors' which cuts up metal. I'm pretty sure I can do the job with that.
Perhaps not neat (given my patience and disposition) but it'll work, it has to work :p

not so, everything is possible, you have to be ingenious about it, that all

if you look closely with this picture, notice where the card end (near the sata connector)

I have a 10.5 inch card and it's end at about the same place, which lead to think that the 5970 is about 12 inch.

the production card is 12.5 inch according to hardocp http://www.rage3d.com/BOARD/showthread.php?p=1336088485

maybe case cutting won't be needed because on the XFX web it list the 5970 at 12 inch, you have 12.1 inch, I just it just flush in barely

but this is a longer 5970, it's way past the sata connection point, unless the motherboard is not the same length or somethings I cannot think of

The EVGA classified is a longer motherboard, it follows EATX form factor, not the standard 11.5" it's more like 13" wide. Cards looks nice what brand?

im not sure what you seen... the 3 I have are all limited... ive looked at the bios in RBE and there all limited to 800 core 1000 memory i then overdrive section. So im pritty sure they are overdrive limited... and ill need RBE or some kinda of Bios editor to unlock the power on these puppy's.

yah Ive got the AMD ati Voltage tool... and the MSI after burner tool when I trying to bring the core over 800mhz on the after burner tool it shoves the dialback down to 800 or back to 725... so im pritty sure we need a bios editior here boys do you anything with these cards.

guys at RBE got some work to do for sure... I already tryed flashing and editing a bios with rbe1.22 dont be fooled it doesnt work.. I wouldnt wanna see anyone else flash there card and get stuck with a bricked card.

dont get me wrong the cards can be flashed with the stock bios.. they cant be edited or changed in anyway, possibly if one of you guys that are talking to sapphire could you ask then what there using the edit the bios code to do these fixes for these new bioses.

damn that is one longass card, good things its the fastest in the world at the moment, because as soon as something is faster and shorter people will probably stop buying it...

enough negativity, I say dremel your case and never look back.

So the card's just exactly 12 inches long  I swear I read somewhere it was over 13" but I must have been confused.

PS the sound card here looks exactly like mine... do you have an x-fi xtreme music?

The red bits add a couple of mm onto the 12" as they come to a slight point. It is indeed an x-fi xtreme music. I think the 13" thing came from the alienbabel site with the tech demo card. I am sure that's where I had read it as well.

Read it of course. Then I read most of what google churned up.
Perhaps that's what confused me.
Or perhaps I confused the 1 and the 3 in 31cm and 13 inches...

Cowie im positive... you have a retail card dont you... probly has looser overdrive limits than mine.. I know some of these cards excluding some like the asus cards which have a an overdrive cap of like 950 core or higher and 1200 on the memory....Also its not the fact the card wont overclock it clocks like crazy... but as soon as I go anything over 800 with afterburner it shuve the bar in the program right back to 725.. which tells me this card has a bios Over drive limit on it. Ive ran into this before on 4870x2's as we'll so I have some pritty good expeiance in this kinda thing.

now like I was saying before the Asus bios is much looser with these limits there for can clock much higher out of the box... now with a bios tweaking program like RBE anyone can oc one of these even if it an es sample or has a really tight bios.

when you guys get a chance open rbe... with ur current bios on your card, spiecally the person I seen in here with the asus card??? tell me what your Overdrive limit is. Some have 800 like me... I opened those new Sapphire bios there releasing to fix the fan issue and its 850 for those cards???... so every manufacture seems to be different.

let me know you finidings

marcus are you sure you cant clock over 800? me and a few others are getting to set over 800 like said use msi ab.
it may just be the card can not clock well at stock volts turn the fan up and add volts if you wish over 800np in no time
