So I have 2 - 320gb Seagate 16mb Barracudas(7200) that Im thinkin of putting in a raid 0...or should I just stick with the WD Caviar Black 32mb 750gb drive?? Either one is gonna be in a newer gaming rig.

Raid Would be faster, but the Caviar Black would be better for your money.

I personally think Caviar Black is enhough for most people

RAID0 those drives for your system/programs/games and use the caviar for DLs/storage.

Edit: looks like you're just gonna put either in this new system. Either way, app installs, launching, game loading and general file ops will be mad fast with a RAID0 setup.

Then put the Raid, but think about the disadvantage a Raid have against a single hard disk.

People with RAID0 should definitely either A) Not put sensitive data on the array or B) Backup frequently.

I don't do either, all of the data that I really consider irrecoverable is already stored on my old IDE drives, waiting in the event this RAID0 ever goes down.

Soon enough I'll have two RAID0s though, one for the system and one for downloads/media.

as Director C said, dont make the assumption of RAID being a backup - you may not double your chances of losing data, but you double the amount of data lost if a drive fails.

Something you could try is what I do. The SB750 allows for dual arrays across the same two drives, so what I did is I made a small 150GB RAID 0 array on the outer edge of the drives (75GB x 2). Then, the rest of the drives were made into a RAID 1 array of size 425GB. I put my two OSes on the outer array (dual partitioned with Ubuntu first, then Windows). I keep all my important data on the RAID 1 array (as well as on a USB HDD). I even have a Windows 7 image I made stored on the RAID 1 array, so I can get right back up should the RAID 0 array fail me (which it has before- one time).

Should one of the drives die, I loose both my OSes. Yet, it doesn't take very long to get moving again, and on top of that, I can accomplish all essential tasks using the Ubuntu Live CD in the mean time. I can just rebuild the RAID 1 array also. And data is on a USB HDD just in case that gets corrupted.

yea raid errors suck, been there done that install os and programs on raid, then use the wd for storage of all sensitive data that you dont really wanna loose your music, movies, porn and whatnot.
