Which TV out of these 2 is best ?

Looking for a cheap hdtv primarily for playing dvd's and just watching sdtv so 1080p isnt need. out of the 2 cheapest ones I can find are an Acer 32" 720p and a Toshiba 32" 720p set.

Now I have had a look at both technical specs and there is not much in it, the acer has slightly better brightness at 22000:1 dynamic vs 18000:1 dynamic

Also the Acer has a "double" tuner as opposed to the toshiba's Digital tuner, tho both have freeview.

Though my instincts are telling me to go with the Toshiba as they are more renowned than Acer for Tv's, also it looks a bit better in the pictures.

Here are the links anyway, they are both on www.pixmania.co.uk for the simple fact I have £120 credit with them so will only be paying around the £200 mark inc del :D

Benchmark Scores Nyooom.
dynamic contrast means nothing - they can almost make the numbers up with those.

Acer has better brightness and more inputs - they seem matched on everything else.

My vote swings acer.

P.S - toshiba has better response times according to the specs, but in all honestly i dont think it matters. when it comes to HDTV's they dont use TN film panels, so the response times are always a little higher than on the average PC screen.

Seeing TVs in the past, I think there are two very important considerations above everything else:

1) Quality of the digital tuner. Some tuners will give up on a digital, OTA, signal easily while others take a beating before losing it. Higher quality tuners will be able to make more sense out of a broken signal than a cheap tuner. Unfortunately, this is really hit or miss and you won't find it on any spec sheet.

2) Program information and usability of menus. Some TVs have crappy menus and can only display now or now and next programming. Good TVs will be able to obtain much more than that. Likewise, some menus are just rubbish and completely not user friendly. The best way to sort this one is to try them yourself or, failing that, read some reviews which go into those details.

I haven't used a Toshiba or Acer TV so I have no opinion beyond those basic points. My gut instinct also says Toshiba but take that with a pinch of salt.

I am very much a looks kind of person and am still leaning towards the Toshiba for the looks, as far as brightness goes, what does 300 vs 500 really mean :wtf: connectivity will be a a scart and a hdmi or 2 at most, no real issues with either

300 vs 500 doesn't mean much unless you are in a very bright room. 500 would be able to overpower the lightsource more so than 300. 300 should be sufficient unless the sun shines through a window and directly on your TV.

I agree with what most have said, however looking at Reviews also and baring in mind that the Toshiba has "Active vision Video processing" which helps to eliminate pixel drift and motion blurring so I am guessing on budget models as these 2 are (Now at least), there should be an improvement in picture quality therefore I would definatly go for the Toshiba.

Edit: My oldest daughter has the model up from this Toshiba and the picture really is excellent.

I got an Acer 32"

Was a budget TV and does brilliantly.

Backed by a 3 year warranty...which (in Australia) was amazing.

Panel had a yellow line through it, emailed them, set up an RMA number (without asking for a reciept or anything). Offered a free courier to pick it up (which we rejected, as I drive past the Acer service center all the time, so I dropped it off). Not even a week later, got the TV sent back via a courier straight from another state.

My 2c :)
