no theres a possibility that a new psu put inside your machine could possibly fry the motherboard and other components (this is why we advocate building your own rig) i dont know if dell continues this practice or not best thing to do is call dell if they try giving you the run around ask for a higher up tech untill you get a guy that isnt going to bullshit you that and google it to death and back

as far as i can tell you should be fine i went ahead and did some googling seems many other have had no issues with antec or corsair psu's but id still make the call to dell and call there bluff so to speak but for the most part i think you should be alright

i've never heard of anything like this. I've only heard of situations where the provided dell case didnt allow aftermarket PSU's to fit inside.


Since its a fairly modern, core 2 based system we can easily say it'll use standard PSU connectors - the only question is about the case. We never covered that, since you never asked.

dell used to custom wire there psu seen a couple of older rigs die when the psu replacing it wasnt a how should we say dell approved supply but as i said to my knowledge they stopped that practice awhile ago

and its not the cpu or ram etc that causes the issue its the custom proprietary motherboards dell has manufactured for there rigs but again he shouldnt have an issue at least not now

it just smarter to do the research now then to ignore the potential issue and ruin a rig sometimes caution is a good thing altho i usually throw it to the wind
