id suggest just try chaning the termal paste / pads whatever asus may use on that board and see difference it makes id sugest Noctua NTH1 i think it is since its non curing and non conductive and does a decent job before worrying about a new heatsink sometimes just a change in thermal paste can make a night and day difference

thank you. will give that a try but while we're on the subjest if I were to
change the heatsink,if need be, what would you recommend?

i honestly have no idea to be frank ive never had to worry about mobo temps that required a new heatsink not since the old Nvidia sli 570 / 590 mcp boards from 3 years ago hopefully someone with experience with your particular board can chime in and help out

Hello,

I have an ASUS Rampage II (GENE) v2.xx Motherboard... What exactly are you wanting to do and why? Are you referring to a CPU cooler recommendation...Or are you talking about the North bridge and South bridge interconnected heat-pipe cooler...>>or the red/black ROG heat-sink attached to the top of the heat-pipe<<??? Please explain the mosfet heat-sink...Is that the one that's rectangular in shape at the end of the heat-pipe between the cpu and back panel connections.

Is this something to do with temperatures you observed on the LCD display...how do you observe your temps?

I'll also need more information pulled from the bios as IOH voltage, IOH PLL voltage, ICH voltage, ICH vCore voltages, your current QPI speed QPI PLL voltage.
Lastly is this anything to do with information read from ASUS "self help" misinformation forums.http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx?board_id=1&model=Rampage+II+Gene&SLanguage=en-us

If you choose to dig around here I remember some ideas that are listed. You may not need to make changes to the well performing heat-pipe and heatsink installed. The more I overclocked the "cooler" these parts run on stock voltages. One option is to attach a small 30mm fan directly ontop of the ROG heatsink and plug it into a 3 prong acces fan board plug 3 are unused unless you have attached extra chasis fans. If you are watercooling the CPU fan is no longer blowing hot air on these parts.

Are you concerarned about "mild" temps in the 60-70'C range? north/south bridge are rated to 100'C by ASUS specs. ???Are you overclocking??? have you preiviously adjusted the voltages listed above? The more information the better to understand your situation as I can help.

[EDIT] I just clicked on your specs from your profile. I see you also have a cooler master case simular to mine(except as you look at the bac of your case, at the 4th/5th expansion slot that is the bottom of mine, you must have a taller version of the same case.) I see you are in fact water cooling with a Corsair H5O setup, I can only assume you have had a hand in overclocking your setup.

thanks for the responce.
i am in the process of putting the pc together and have read multiple threads all over the web saying the northbridge on the ASUS RAMPAGE II GENE runs hot.i am wanting to overclock it as high as i can 24/7 and i figure while i am puting it together if an after market northbridge/mosfit heatsink will help now is the time to put it on while it is in pieces.just wondering what would fit?
what temps are you getting on the stock chipset heatsink?

As of right now ... I turned everything back to stock mode as I'm upgradeing from Winxp to Win7 and reconfiguring my hard drives to raid0/1 and reinstaling a load of software as I type. On the LCD poster (1)CPU32 (2)NB53 (3)SB53 (4)MB38 as I have LCD poster set bios to read temps.

Don't worry about it, you don't have a Cpu fan expleling its heat onto the surrounding parts due to the H50. Stock voltages or one/two bumps up will be fine. I've gone as high as 4.4Ghz so far on a stock Intel fan, the NB/SB were below 65'C. I noticed the higher I O.C. the cooler those two parts ran upto 4Ghz 60'C.

No I remember keeping a glanceing look at load prime95, 3dmark06, folding@home, something that was really stressing system. They were nothing I was concerned about as I was focused on CPU temps with stock fan pushing +80'C@+4Ghz. The NB/SB have a heat pipe in with the setup, it works well. If you are concerned keep an eye out for a 30mm fan w/corner holes to screww mount ontop of the black/red ROG heatsink between the fin posts(one corner won't mount though but 3 screws will hold it), with the H5O you will have plenty of room to add one later as you should have side panels that come off of that case??? Or are you building it for someonelse??? If thats the case add it now if you have one just laying around...I gota and old ADM k6 III 400Mhz cpu it has a 30mm fan attached to it. As I also kept my options open for later, but right now my set up dosn't need a the fan for it...yet. A small cheap fan that size may be found at hobby type of store or a larger computer store, or junk pile...just keep an eye out for one "IF" you need it.

Let me know what you think of the H5O, I'm going to shoot for 5Ghz and I know the fans gota go for that. I've looked aroung and it looks like $80 for the H5O. I like the idea of no maintance sealed. Did you already attach it??? how much room do you have on the side of the case, looks like a tight fit between the backpanel conector ports and the other side. If you got yours to fit, then I know it dos fit there, kinda tight.
