@MKmods

I could not agree more, i think you understand were im coming from, this is not a moral stance this is a huge company and if they want to keep me happy they will give me a 5850.

Yeah im lucky to get a replacement after i rma'd a waterdamaged card but they have honoured that and im entitled to complain as a consumer if i wish.
It is very unlikely that you will ever get a 5850, the 4890 is worth a 5830 at best.
The problem is the 5830 isn't avaliable at this time ;)

I think the best you can do is ask for a 4890, if you truely thinks that XFX is giving you less than what you deserve.
They should at lease have some recertified cards.

apparently the online retailer that i returned the card to sent it off to XFX and this is what XFX returned to them for me. I think a 5850 would be a fair trade tbh, but the 5850 is around the £230 price tag and i only paid £150.

Tbh on the other hand i should be happy that they replaced it..... my loop leaked on the 4890 and it had 2 screws missing from the heatsink. Lucky i got anything lol

Dont rock the boat. You should be VERY happy that they are replacing it at all, considering the state you gave it back to them in

I would still complain, just out of principle..... if they have accepted the RMA they are accepting liability and if thats the case, they should replace with a card of at least equal value and at least equal performance, whichever way you care to look at it, in most things the 4890 is a tad quicker....... push it hard enuff and you might at least perhaps get a brand spanking new 5830 as they will begin to drift to the shelves shortly.

Although i don't thin they can subsitute with what is technically a "B Grade" item.

True, if theyve taken the item back, theyve admitted responsability for its failure. I didnt think of that :) So he could ask for the better card (HD5850) and the worst that would happen is being lumbered with an HD5770 (which given his situation, isnt too bad)

Or

What about pushing for a refund ;)

o yeah i am happy that i got something tbh, but i will try and milk company's for all they are worth if i can.

@ tatty

O yeah i completely agree, they have offered a me a refund for what i paid or the 5770 as this was the retailers decision. So i suppose they are being fair enough.. they cant get 4890's so they refund or take a 5770 as a replacement. The guy i spoke to was a good guy and he said they couldnt offer me a 5850 but they can offer me a refund. If it was down to xfx it might be a better angle to fight from, but as i only paid £150 for the 4890 i cant argue for a £250 5850.

I was offered a B grade 4890 but they said this would be their last resort as they cant guarantee them

I'd gladly swap my 4890 for a 5770 consider yourself lucky it got replaced. My friend RMA'd his 4870x2 and all they did was send him it back saying it worked.

plus as ive said in posts above or a few pages back that im awaiting a 5870, so if they gave me a 4890 it would only be getting sold and proberly be worth less the a 5770.

If someone sent me back a defective card saying it worked, i would send it back and make sure it was DEAD!

well I guess that's settled then.

You gonna use the cash for the sale of the 5770 for games or to merely replenish the extra spent for the 5870?

They're a bit better. They don't do refunds though like ebuyer and they still charge you shipping costs to RMA something.

Can't really complain about that although I appreciate the frustration, you can always take the 5770, send it to me and I will give you one of my HD4890 Toxics that run at 1040mhz on stock volatge, of course near silently with these excellent coolers! I might just then buy a 2nd 5770 for Xfire goodness

If they charge you shipping to return a faulty item to them for refund or replacement, or don't refund charges you incurred, then they're breaking the law. It's that black and white.

I've bought lots of stuff from them in the past and what I found is that they never, ever refunded the shipping without me asking for it. Incredibly, that includes the times when I wrote in the webnote requesting the RMA that I expected the shipping cost paid back, so they can't claim that they "forgot". However, when I asked them for it afterwords they didn't dare quibble. Seems quite a nice little scam they've got going on there. :nutkick: I wonder just how many people never bother chasing up their shipping costs and end up making them a nice profit?

You're lucky getting this kind of service from OcUK - I won't bang on about it as that's not the topic. Basically you have the choice of the 5770 or a refund, honestly - I'd stick with the 5770 instead of having the whole ordeal of sending it back, waiting for the refund, bringing it to their attention if they haven't done what they're supposed to do.

If you still want a 4890, I'd definitely take up Tatty's offer if I were in your shoes.

I'd fight for a HD4890 back. The HD5770 performs right about the same as an HD4870, not an HD4890. So they kind of screwed you.

Just tell them you require the matching card because you run crossfire, they will likely replace it.

This is what i'd do. A 5850 would be nice but ultimately it's too big a jump in price for them to give you. If you're going to sell it then you'll probably get the same price as the 4890 as it's in high demand.

overclockers uk are not that bad anymore, they are not my first choice granted but they had a very nice deal at the time of buying the 4890. I guess you just have to know what to say and how to handle them. They have been fine with my first rma with them and the card was a mess tbh. They have been bad in the past i guess. But i got what i wanted so no problems.

The reason i didnt mention the retailer is because i expected the OCUK debate to occur.

Im going to keep the 5770 as it turned up on my doorstep an hour ago and i could not resist having something new to play with. I also sent my 4870x2 off for rma today so its a nice replacement for a week while i wait for the outcome of that.

It will be up on the BST section in a week or so tho. As i have a 5870 coming to me in a week or so. So get your trades ready lads :)

WOW! i just played dirt 2 with this baby everything at max and it ran really really smooth and DX 11 looks great.

I actually cant believe how different the lighting and shadows on objects look. Im really impressed by it. I was expecting dx10 extra features, but seriously DX11 looks great.

A little trick Codemaster did is that Dirt2 does not run under DX10 :ohwell:
So you are looking at DX9 vs DX11 here, but by all means there is a difference.
The AO in DX11 do makes the game that much better.
