Just like every other crazy person in the gaming industry. I know people still on dial-up. Won't happen.

Japan's internet is superior, and I mean #1 in the world. It's possible for it there, and I mean right now.

Same, I think of that JFAC album cover everytime I see it.

I agree that distributors or whoever else will never risk starting up something like here this until a huge percentage of the "gaming age group" has access to personal high-speed internet. For that to happen, the internets have to drop in price. Many companies are still charging $50+ a month for just so-so speed access.

Japan has the best internet in the world.... speed, and price, probably cost like 35$ for 50Mbps line.

You think a cause of that is because the population density is so high in a lot of places? Less cables, hubs, whatever else could lead to lower prices...

Yeah, probably.

The copper wire used to hook up Japanese homes is newer and runs in shorter loops to telephone exchanges than in the United States. This is partly a matter of geography and demographics: Japan is relatively small, highly urbanized and densely populated. But better wire is also a legacy of American bombs, which razed much of urban Japan during World War II and led to a wholesale rewiring of the country.

In 2000, the Japanese government seized its advantage in wire. In sharp contrast to the Bush administration over the same time period, regulators here compelled big phone companies to open up wires to upstart Internet providers.

This obviously wont be soon. But in 10 years, sure. I seem to remember the FCC and your US gov't stating to get broadband everywhere across the country by 2015 or something.

Other countries will likely follow this.
