Looking for a good gaming laptop, I wouldn't just use it for gaming, for school, music, web, etc.

Paypal Ready

My price range would be about $500-$600

Pretty tough to find a "gaming laptop" in that price range, but one never knows :)

I have a Gateway P7811-FX but would not even consider that kind of price.

Add about 3 bills to it, and it would be in the ballpark:toast:

600 dollar gaming laptop? There are some close to your range that might do okay for some mild gaming. Here's an Acer laptop at Newegg for $650 with a GeForce GT 130m (equivalent to a Geforce 9600GT)

If I was looking for a laptop with some real gaming ability on the cheap, I'd try to find one of the late model ASUS G51 series. They started at only $900 new and should be available for a bit less now. Here's a link to some auctions that might help. That G51 series is hot!!! (literally)

Do a search on that model -the oldest ones have 9700GT's, most have 9800M's or GTX260's. That's my first choice though.

They can be acceptable for moderate gaming but yeah -compared to a real desktop setup, the performance just can't be matched. If only they had more realistic model designations as well! I wish a GTX260M performed like a real GTX260 and not an underclocked 8800gt. Or a mobility 5870 was really a 5870 instead of a 5770. At least the gaming laptops got cheaper. Before the Gateway FX series came out, they seemed a lot more expensive.

I'm trying to get rid of my 9800m gts lappy. I love it to death, but it is very heavy and I have to lug it around all the time and I don't game as much as I would like to on it. So...$1200 sound good?

Right now, the Gateway P-7811FX is worth between $700 to $850 depending on condition, and what is being offered with it. I have that exact same laptop, and that is about what I have been quoted in several different forums.

You can pick up a quality used Asus laptop if you keep an eye out for them. I got the one listed in my sig at the bottom for a steal here on TPU. They are out there, you just have to wait for them to pop up. :toast:

I figured someone would correct me if I said the wrong price. What do you mean, "what is coming with it"?
