I have a custom rig with an asus motherboard and two video cards. ( a radeon 4870 and a radeon 4860) My computer has been popping a little since I put it together but now its earthshatteringly loud and the only thing I can do is mute my monitor (52" Samsung LCD). I have tried all three hdmi ports on the tv and if I hook the hdmi to the other video card then the video doesn't work. I have also switched the cables twice but have had no luck. please help!!:toast:

Yes. it is an audible crackling and adjusting the volume does nothing. I have nine fans including the heat sync so it is a dust collector but I don't see how that would cause it. plus, it has been doing it on and off since I built the rig and now its constant.

your onboard soundchip probably is victim to severe crosstalk... you could try to use some old pci soundcard, that probably will eleminate youre problems;)

lol at the last two posts...

so the only time it ever pops is when its hooked up to the pc? is there a tiny wire going from your motherboard to the video card? if so that's the audio cable that sends from the on-board chip, to your video card, and then to hdmi... it could be that this wire is bad or is getting interference. You could put a small ferrite core on that wire, they have them at radioshak and other electronics shops for like, $3 or so. in case ur wondering... ferrite cores are those bulging things on the wire for a lot of keyboards, monitors, printers, etc.

you could try a driver update or switching your pc's sound setting from say 24bit to 16bit or lower the frequency from 96k to something a little lower.

It is probably electromagnetic interference (EMI).
This is usually caused by poor or inadequate cable shielding
or insulation. You might try re-arranging and isolating your speaker cables.

How are you connected for audio?
HDMI, RCA etc..

Sorry never mind.. on that...
Make sure everything is updated run cCleaner go into control panel/device manager and try to disable all but one audio source?

yea drivers do all sorts of things... glad you got it workin

btw if you ever run Halo for pc and still hear poping, turn of hardware mixing for sound or w/e... i think its just that game for w/e reason. (i have it and it does it with every soundcard i've had, although its more or less sound skipping)
