how to change a processor heat sink and fan

hello ive bought a heat sink and fan from ebay a evercool one i was just wondering how much thermo paste i have to put on their first and is their any special way i should moniter it after woulds to make sure it works fine and not over heating

just a small dot on the cpu, then use a credit card or similar to spread it out, and only so much paste that it covers the cpu, very thin layer

and then use realtemp, coretemp, or hwmonitor to check the temps

The old cooler MIGHT be a pain to get off so be careful as you might need to gently move the cooler left to right so it looses grip with the cpu.

HWMonitor is a good app.

thanks is pc probe any good coz i just ran that it said it was when it was in idle mode running at 57 and when the fan kicked in its at 79degrees this is with my old cpu fan and heat sink

its 3.6ghz dual core not sure of the model i just tokk the side of the comp off it was red hot in their also is it safe to put a temp probe between the new heatsink and cpu its papper thin

dual core 65nm, looks a bit high keep under 75 will be good so i think you need better cooling
