Yeah, but theres nothing to stop you from backing up your back up! Good practice in fact.
I just like the convienience of having it all there on the IDE without having to hunt through a pile of cd/dvds. Chances of all drives failing at once is pretty slim, unless the whole rig catches fire of course, LOL (Don't even joke about it....)

cool, I'm not fond of burning dvds to often though, guess you could call me lazy :p.

I think since its a budget system P1rate and you dont plan on sli, you should get a ds-3 board if you go conroe.

Theses computer build prices can add up quickly.. EXPECT TO SPEND MORE THAN YOU EXPECT! :D

Looks good.

Intel c2d is a better proformer than athlon x2 though and prob cheaper than a 4200, not sure of your mobo price for the athlon but a good sli/x-fire c2d mobo costs 220usd or so. but than if your not planning on oc'in the athlon is prob a better choice since at stock its faster than a e6300 "I think".

But that looks like a rocking system. see how much shipping on the case cost I got my case on a 5.99 shipping special... otherwise I would of bought it locally to save $30.

the c2d cpu's have a lower Ghz rating but are a lot faster. In a nutshell, they do "more" work (like more instructions) per megahert, so they run a lot faster.

Id like to know whether its worth spending almost double on an e6600 from a e6300/e6400 all for the extra 2mb of L2 cache (e6300/300 only come with 2mb L2 cache, e6600+ come with 4mb)...so is it actually worth it?

yep, for sure

im still wondering if its worth getting the 2.4Ghz (e6600) for the extra cache :p

W2hCYK told me I'm better off getting e6300 or e6400 since L2 cache dont help much with gaming (or somthing like that). pricewise you for sure get more value for your $$$ buying an 2mb L2 cache cpu or an e6700 which overclocks like mad aswell.

e6600 is still a good cpu though, I dont know all about the benfits of running processes and L2 cache... how much of a diff in speed you could expect.

I remember reading something from Intel bragging about one of its processors with 4mb l2 and performing better than any other becsuse it has enough L2 to handle complex calculations like huge levels on graphic intensive games etc...
The L2 cache is VERY fast memory on your processor (i believe mine is around 16000MB/sec...) and chances are the more L2 you have the more L1 you have (L1 is alot smaller than L2, I believe I have 32KB of it but it runs at 32000MB/sec)

However, I would ALWAYS go for a stronger video card rather than a stronger CPU. My dad has a AMD Athlon 2200+ and a evga GeForce 6600 agp8x and Oblivion plays like a champ on his system. Rather on mine with a Intel 2.8ghz with about 2x as much L2 cache as he has on the processor, faster ram, I keep my system shining... but with a 5200Ultra... and I have to run some fony program called Oldblivion to play it. Without that program i get 3 fps at the most :| I would say my dad gets around 40. GPU > CPU

And you wont be needing a sound card either..

lmao so true, id much rather spend the extra $250 on a decent GFX, or SLi cards, than some L2 cache :p

get a opty 165 the price is down they clock to 3ghz or so on stock cooling and vcore plus the s939 boards are getting cheaper everyday and at that csppeds it beats all except the e6700 and x6800 with the cheaper mobo/cpu combo you can get better ram and better video cards thats what i would do but thats just me
