Your best bet it to test the 5770 with some other rig, and check that its working perfectly fine. If that's the case, then I think the fault lies on the motherboard. If not, then the fault lies on the graphics card, assuming that you use the same cable connecting your monitor to your onboard VGA.

As long as you are sure that it will work with this monitor with a capable Motherboard, anyone have any suggestions as to a diecent and compatible motherboard that wouldn't break the bank? Im skinned justnow anyway. WIll be a long time before I can afford anything else...

'HD' is 1280x720. its hardly a high resolution, absolute antique screens use 1280x1024 which is higher.

I can assure you that all HD 5K cards support as low as 640x480 and 800x600, because they have to to let you see an image in motherboard BIOS/DOS etc.

Since other cards work in the slot and you said its a corsair PSU, my guess is just a bad card. That or the cable/adaptor you're using to the monitor is bad - is it the same cable/adaptors you used on the other cards?

its very unlikely to be the motherboard, if other video cards work in that slot.

Could the PCI-E interface be out of date? It should be PCI-E 2.0 but on some sites my Motherboard is listed as PCI-E 1.1 It's a ASRock 945GCM-S

PCI-E is all compatible with one another.

its possible the motherboard may have issues with the card and need a BIOS update to work, but i've only seen a handlful of cases like that (usually on motherboards where the PCI-E slot was only 4x, not full 16x bandwidth)

The monitor works fine and it is the seccond 5000 series card that I have tried in this rig with this monitor. I am currently using the Onboard GPU

There is something not right if you have tried 2 different cards and none are posting, what psu do you have? the chances of having 2 cards doa is very very small :wtf:

if other cards work and he's tried two 5K cards, then i'd say its a compatibility issue between mobo and video card then.

So that means nothing is 'faulty', to be literal.

try a BIOS update on the motherboard, if one is available.

Also what I am leaning towards though not heard of an issue where you have to update a bios to support a certain pcie card.

For the OP, you can get the latest bios here:

You're quite sure you disabled onboard vga correctly?

Any chance that you can try some one elses mobo in your system? - Could work out alot cheaper if a 'borrowed' mobo still doesnt work and the problem lies elsewhere...

I am now thinking its defo a motherboard issue, and if you are sure you are running the latest bios 1.20 you can check in the bios itself then time for a new board, you should be able to pick up one really cheaply

Does your screen use a standard VGA connector or DVI?

If its VGA and you're using DVI connector, you tried another connector? Normally one comes with the card...

I'm with everyone else when they say an HD screen is not required, but I suppose it could be possible that the screen must at least be HD compatible..

Never really seen anyone run a new gpu on an older LCD which is not HD compatible, so I guess its plausible that it could potentially be the issue.

Most likely though, its misconfiguration somewhere, whether that be BIOS related or the mobo, you're gonna have to do more testing...

Looks like a 22" lcd from his sys specs. Any old monitor should work anyway.

My screen uses standard VGA, I am using a DVI to VGA connector included with the card.

Have you tried another? if yes, then again only thing it could be is the mobo.
