Asus sound cards are pretty good. But you should go for it only if you think your current audio codec is not enough.

Yep it will do that. It offloads some of the processing that the CPU does so it gets a little more wiggle room as far as regular/multitasking sound usage.

Not true in reality. On paper yes it will offload some of the stress from the CPU however with today's dual core, tri-core and quad core processors the CPU is able to handle the audio processing just fine. In the old days back when we were running Pentium IIIs and AMD Durons with 600-800MHz clock frequencies the processing power wasn’t there so soundcards relieved the stress however today this isn’t the case. At best with a high end soundcard you'd probably benefit from 0.1-5 FPS increase. Also most onboard soundcard's today use the same chipsets as a lot of these midrange and sometimes high end dedicated soundcards.

The only reason to get a soundcard is to enhance the audio quality or to gain support for a particular audio standard (Dolby Digital, DTS) as far as extra performance :wtf:

Well I doubt many people get soundcards to get an extra frame or two in games, I'd say it's likely most people get them for better sound...

People get sound card because they have some good audio system that they want to utilize and they can enjoy the better sound quality compared to the onboard audio.
