When will LGA1366 expire?

I've read somewhere that Intel plans to expire LGA1366 sometime before LGA1156. If that is true, does anyone ever read of that also and could remember when will that expiry take place? I'm not sure but I've read somewhere in 2011 LGA1366 will be suppressed. I just want to know because it will define my next system upgrade. Hopefully a 6 core 32nm processor will get more affordable, and the price of DDR3 will go down for an eventual 24GB kit

But I think Intel shouldn't expire LGA1366 for some years, it is a viable platform for them, no?

Both 1366 and 1156 are set to be replaced first half of next year IIRC. There's a news article about the new sockets on the front page a ways back.

there is a new socket coming out soon, but no one knows if it will be compatible with AM3 (similar to the AM2/AM2+ deal)

i read that too somewhere, i think they're being discontinued at similar times, its just that 1336 is going to get new tech (6 core CPU's) while 1156 isnt.

I believe LGA1156 is set to be discontinued when LGA1155 will launch and LGA1366 will be discontinued when LGA2011 will launch. Since the latter will launch in H2 2011, while LGA1155 will launch in H1 2011, then LGA1366 will outlive LGA1156.

In either case, we are at a stage in computer development where more powerful CPUs are really not needed for the home user crowd. A Core i7 920 or an i5 750 (especially if overclocked - And if we're on TPU, it is overclocked) will be relevant for gaming for years to come. Heck, the old Q6600 is still an excellent gaming CPU, and it is over three years old. With the shift to higher resolution monitors, the real gaming bottleneck is the GPU, not the CPU.

Of course, for enthusiasts the quest for the forever faster system is a whole different deal, and servers are always happy with more processing power, but most of this power is not really needed for most users.
