Can I Put 800MHz In A 533MHz Board?

I've got some spare 800MHz sticks which I'd love to put into another rig, but the mobo only supports a maximum of 533MHz RAM...

If I put these sticks in, will the board just automatically lower their clocks? It's only an ASUS P5LP-LE (Lithium) so I highly doubt there is a BIOS option to manually adjust them... but it seems like such a waste when I could upgrade this PC for free!

Yes, 800MHz RAM should work, and I think that board actually supports up to 667MHz RAM.

Yeah, if the ram is slated for 800mhz, and you place it in a board that memory controller is set for a lower freq. then the ram will be set at the "highest" settings possible. Same with a board that is set at 800mhz and you put in 1066mhz ram. It'll all ways be set at 800mhz until you set it in bios.

The board will down clock the ram. The maximum supported speed via chipset/FSB is 667Mhz.

there is a chance you could have stability issues if the ram doesn't like to be downclocked.
