ATi can. And fyi, if you look at the fps on fraps with aa on and off from the nvcp, there is frame drop as well just like with radeons, which is very evident during the in game dialogues with Jimmy Eugene Raynor. This is a problem on the engine maybe and not on the drivers itself.

yeah i know but what i meant is that theres a problem with the game or something else that makes ATI card drop its fps lower than geforce cards. Maybe Nvidia and Blizzard has a deal or something hmmm....

more likely that ATI are just behind on getting SCII drivers ready.

that's my assumption as well. ATI have been doing good but they do have the rep for slower on driver improvements/releases/fixes.

Ok guys, just did some quick benches in Starcraft 2 here with the new hotfix, these are the results I get:
(Everything on Ultra,resolution is 1920x1080,my HD5770 is stock,my i5 750 is stock.Vsync on and frameratecap=60 because I don't want my card to melt :D)
(I set the timer on FRAPS to 120 seconds)

No AA,No AF FPS:

Min - 0 (dunno what happened here)
Max - 41
Avg - 38

2XAA,16xAF FPS:

Min - 18
Max - 37
Avg - 29

4XAA,16AF FPS:

Min - 21
Max - 37
Avg - 26

8XAA,16XAF FPS:

Min - 1
Max - 13
Avg - 7

I tried 8AA just to see what happened. No surprises there, the game is unplayable (the game actually displayed a message asking me if I wanted to lower settings to get a better performance). On 4AA is a little bit laggy sometimes, but is overral playable, and so on.
I noticed that the biggest performance hit come from those cinematics in the ship. The AA works, but the scene just become choppy.
On a last note, the mission I chose to record these results is "In Utter Darkness" because it's just a major clusterf*** of units.

What did you use to test it? like what level or w/e. i would think there's something goofy going on there as i got 55avg/no AA, n then 38avg/AA. N i got a q6600 compared to your i5 so hmmm thou your min is much better than mine was, 11 for both runs

thats where i tested it first actually, all the stuff on the ship became unwatchable before the in-mission stuff became unplayable.

i dropped back to 10.7 since the AA was too slow for me, and no problems.

I HAVE experienced severe lag spikes on occasion, in SP and MP - in MP all players had it simultaneously and it left as one as well.

but you have a 5870...how is it too slow?!? Minimum fps I've got, and with a ton of units fighting, was ~25fps, and that's extremely good for a strategy game. Usually it stays around ~50-60fps, so I have no pb with 4xAA. And yes, since is summer the card is UNDERclocked to 800Mhz (GPU), and 1000Mhz (RAM). ;)

25FPS is too slow. that is completely unacceptable. the minimum i'll tolerate is 45.

Not true at all. For a strategy game is almost perfect (you don't need more than 30fps anyways). This is not a shooter to require high fps. The C&C is capped at 30fps and some other strategy games too. And trust me, it's almost no difference between 25fps and 30fps. Remember that all movies in cinemas or TV are at 24fps. ;) Btw, remember GP2?? It was so fluid at 25fps, and it was a racing simulator :)) or Force Unleashed, capped at 30fps too??

yes, i know those capped games. i either uncap them, or dont play them.

24FPS is fine for movies and cinema because they blur one frame into the next to simulate it being higher... just because you're fine with it, doesnt mean i, or others am.

how many people here were fine with 60Hz CRT's for years, until they went to a 75 or 85Hz screen? how many went back to 60Hz and couldnt stand it anymore? same deal.

its 1360x768, btw. its what my 40" runs at.

You're both wrong. lol

It's 1366x768.

You might be interested in this http://pixelmapping.wikispaces.com/Guide+to+1366x768?responseToken=0eb650557cffe9f66c7533a919ad71a27

With XP and older drivers my laptop had no problem outputting 1366x768 through HDMI and the monitor recognizes the difference with 1360x768 and 1366x768 via it's OSD. Don't know why but todays drivers / OS's don't seem to want to be as versatile with screen resolution even with the same hardware. :(

windows 7 also has the problem where it defaults to 59Hz instead of 60, screwing some things up as well (DX10 games default to 60Hz interlaced, thinking its higher than 59Hz progressive)

Movies and cinema have motion blur. Completely different than a game and cannot be compared.

I'm with Mussels, the only game I have ever played that I can tolerate less than 45fps is Crysis. I don't play games capped at 30fps. They give me a headache.

30fps in a game makes my eyes melt. Transformers has a 30fps cap and its unplayable. They ended up making a hack that rasied the cap up to 60fps. Great game by the way.

Anyway I'm sad to see my rig wouldn't be able to max out SC2 with a 60fps minimum. Honestly looking at the graphics all I can say is the engine must be crap. I mean look at this....

i7 860 with a Nvidia 480 running 1024x768 with no AA or AF only gets 32fps max?!? WTF man?!

my FPS drops just as low at times in game, but those 'worst case' scenarios are few and far between. they only happen late game in 4v4 matches in the final battles.

Also, its cause the game is CPU limited... like just about every other major RTS.
