Hey again,

This again is stretching a few threads I've made about my CPU and Ocing it. http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=128413

I got 4.2 somewhat stable for my use, RAM was at 1200 and cpu temperature topped out at 90.

I increased the ram multi to 8 to get 1600mhz out of the ram. RAM voltage is at 1.66, temps exceeded 95 at only the 5th pass of linx where I thought it would be wise to back out. I went to the bios to change the mem voltage to 1.56, and to my surprise I'm still getting 95+.

Am I stretching my components too far?

Thanks for your help.

Stretching your components too far maybe, not stretching appropriate cooling enough? also maybe. To answer your question, there may be an indirect link between ram speeds and temps, in so much as, for higher memory speeds you may have to raise your VTT volts, that in itself may increase temps, however if you run in EMP profile at 1600mhz with a speed of 4.2gig and then lower the speed and VCore to 3.9gig but still keep the 1600mhz EMP profile you should have significantly lower temps.

I run an OLD 920 C0 stepping and at 4.2gig HT on on air cooling I never go above 85C.

Hey, by EMP do you mean XMP? If so, my memory isn't xmp certified. I am running a push pull setup on a megahalems so dunno if the cooling department is lacking... Overall I get better results running at 4.14 or something and the ram at 15xx. But I want to try out 4.2, Im probably going to lap my hs soon.

Oh and also, for testing reasons, I kept the vtt volts high so i didnt have to change them, just to keep eliminate one variable.

EDIT:Just looked at your system specs, you have 4.2 running at 1.3v, im currently using 1.356xx

Lol yes I was thinking of Nuclear warfare (as in Electro Magnetic Pulse... EMP)

So no hope for this cpu unless its underwater maybe, but before that happens I swear I'm gonna lap it. Lap it good.

i would play with lowering QPI/VTT uncore and vcore before lapping anything. lapping will not make a whole lot of difference maybe 1-2c 3 maximum

I think it might make more, because when I took the CPU out (at least 5 times) there was always almost nothing in the middle but the edges were clogged.
