Yea like the whole ATT to SBCGlobal then back to ATT on the ISP side. ATT to Cingular then back to ATT on the mobile side.

Visiontek has a new website.
http://www.visiontek.com/

they are hardly dead.

Anyways, is there a chance those bfg cards will come out?

Do you read or can you read? Even the one sentence of mine that you quoted leaves nothing to speculation... I said the company THEY ARE TODAY, being the one that sells ATI cards, HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH THE COMPANY THEY WERE BACK THEN, being the one that sold Nvidia cards.

Meaning, they're pretty much two different companies. I never said there was no Visiontek today. Quite the contrary, actually.

based on what I see

Visiontek went bankrupt.
Some Employees left and founded BFG before the company goes under.
Visiontek goes under and Hartford buys the name right afterwards but sells ATI cards
Visiontek is almost bankrupt again in 2009 and nothing more is heard about it.
BFG starts to go under.

it sad to see BFG in the same boat possibly as Visiontek.:shadedshu

problem is hartford said
Our company Hartford purchased the rights to the name Visiontek and Xtasy. We did not purchased their debt.

so even if they go under and get the name bought everyone who bought something already still won't have a warranty more than likely:shadedshu

DejaVu

did you work for BFG Jonny

Exactly. Except, AFAIK, the current Visiontek is still around. At least I'm still seeing their cards at Best Buy.

did you work for BFG Jonny

Yes. I was the power supply product manager for 3 years.

As of August 2010, BFG is in the process of liquidation, albeit only for the GPU business. As a result of this, BFG is not honoring RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) requests for warranty service, repair, or replacement any longer, instead returning the card to the the customer with a short letter explaining the situation.... source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BFG_Technologies  and Http://techpowerup.com

I wonder why the person that edited the wiki article (someone in California, supposedly) said "albeit only for the GPU business" when the first letter that surfaced on the net was from someone that returned a power supply for warranty replacement. Hmm...

Good, they got what they deserved, they made poor products and had poor support for them, and cheated their customers. I only ever bought a power supply and a video card from them, and both were a disaster. The power supply I bought back in December of 08 and by Feb it was dead, so I RMA'd only to 2 months later get a different model of power supply than what I had sent in, come to find out no one even sells it anymore, because it was such a piece of trash, also there is the fact I sent in a modular 850 watt, and got back a non modular 600 watt. I used it under the assumption they would refund me the difference (they never did), and it too died in 2 months. After another 2 month RMA I got a 800 non modular, that I sold to be rid of their trash products. The video card was much of the same, I used it, it broke in 5 months RMA's 3 weeks later I get a GTX 260 back when I sent in a 280.

I'm glad that they finally failed, I'm also glad I sold their crap products on ebay. :shadedshu

saw a sorry sight yesterday while out in the town - a shop had about 5 or 6 BFG cards left on display - brandnew, still with their plastic wrapping on.... I think their gonna be stuck there forever, sold for a stupidly low price or given away/sold to a member of staff at a discount price. otherwise their just waiting for potential noobs who arent in the know & try to flog it to them knowing that theres no warranty beyond shop warranty.

My bad, it was a 800 the ES model my guess is ES stood for extra sh*ty ( http://hardocp.com/article/2008/02/27/bfgtech_es800_800w_power_supply/2 ). Don't be butt hurt, regardless of if you believe me or not the company is still dead, and the world is a better place for it.

"Extra sh*tty" yet you link to a review where it gets a Gold Award. And you said the original PSU was modular. The ES-800 isn't modular.

Look... you're pissed at BFG. I get it. But if you don't know what you're talking about, then leave it.

I don’t know if you planned on doing more work with the jonnyguru site, but I’d personally be very interested in an article about what it was like working with a major company on products you had a passion for. How much they listened to your ideas, how much control you had and what sort of limits you had. Just what the working environment was like.

If you guys go on BFG website they have released GTX470 and GTX480 apparantly??
http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgrgtx4701280e.aspx

They are closing their doors, selling everything, and then reopening with a clean slate removing all the lifetime warrenties under their belt.

IDK if there is any truth in it, hell I just made it up, but it sure would be kinnda funny to see them do that.

real question you have to ask yourself....is if any of these 470s/480s made it to the retailers before they started cutting staff n closing down departments.

google turns up multiple links on people who have said the exact same thing as you, but asside from whats on that page you linked - there is no other evidence that the cards did make it to the retailer. the cards are still probably sitting inside their depo/warehouse awaiting distribution which of course...aint gonna be happenin any time soon. it was probably like the ATi thing they tried out - a last ditch attempt to save themselves from going under. Making 470/480's while they debated about making the move to ATi which of course everyone knows what happend with that. The BFG 470/480 was probably a ruse/faint to keep people thinking they were still hanging in there n doing alright while they were trying to dig themselves out of a hole which fell through to the otherside of the earth when BFG realised it had not talked to ATi directly or finished talks with them about becoming a certified ATi partner, they no longer had the time or expenses left to keep going so started shedding its staff.

-----

this is all speculation of course. I doubt if BFG will tell anyone the truth or what really happend within the company that drove them to the stage they are at now
