Graphics Card recommendation

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a graphics card, inexpensive, from this website (http://www.canadacomputers.com/). My computer died a while ago and I am in the process of putting together a new one. I am just looking for a simple graphics card that is going to get the job done in terms of general day-to-day operations. Also, I would like to use it to play WoW sometimes, as well, and have it run fairly smoothly. I don't think that's a huge request because I had a Radeon 9500 which ran WoW just fine (and that's a nine year-old card).

Any suggestions? Remember - inexpensive!

you should go newegg or tiger direct because i don't think you can get any cheaper than two of them. and your mobo seem to be agp based according to your previous gfx was radeon 9500 i don't thin you can get any agp card in the retail market with better performance and reasonable price. the best you should do is get a new rig because you won't find any difference performance and won't be an upgrade. but if you insist i'd say powercolor 3650 may meet your requirement.

As said, what are your system specs, i assume you're using a motherboard with an AGP slot considering you're currently using or were using a Radeon 9500.

And if that's the case your choices are fairly limited.(then again, for the stuff you do it shouldn't be much of an issue)

Well, this is the system my friend is offering to build for me. He's going on the same parameters that I mentioned on this board: a fairly inexpensive system that will keep me going day-to-day but allow me to play 'some' games (such as WoW).

A dollar amount for the graphics card? I don't know, around $100 at the most.

That's a pretty cheap solid build, if you mainly play WOW and just a bit of other games, for that $100 GPU budget you can get a nice XFX 5670 1GB card:XFX HD-567X-ZNF3 Radeon HD 5670 1GB 128-bit DDR5 P...

Great GPU for people who don't play a ton of games, but need a GPU sufficient enough to run the occasional games they want to play.

Reaching your left retina.
The only thing to recommend right now is to wait. I don't usually recommend waiting (because there's always going to be a next best thing after the next best thing) but when we are 1 week away from an announcement...

The HD5750 could fall well to <<$100 who knows.

Dude, you can do so much better than that PSU. Only ">70% efficiency"? The PSU is THE foundational part of a PC. And you don't have to pay much more, especially if you take advantage of some of the rebated units. I'd aim for an 80+Bronze unit.

As for the GT240, which is an OK card, that price is way too high. Should be somewhere around $50 (after MIR). How about an GTS450 for $121 after MIR? (Then you could even use it to Fold for Team TPU;)) Sorry that I couldn't stay at CC&E.:ohwell:

As someone else mentioned, the AMD 68XX's are due to come out this week and that may very well drive prices down in the segment that you're looking at. You could even build this system w/o a GFX card and see what happens to prices over the next few weeks.

The word "inexpensive" makes me think:
Used cards? get one here in tpu!
or
get asus EAH4350 because it is "inexpensive"

So, I've read what everyone has said and I am hoping for a little bit more assistance. If someone could look at this website http://www.canadacomputers.com and tell me which is the best graphics card, in their opinion, for me to purchase with this new rig? You can, obviously, go by the cards already suggested but I don't want to accidently get the wrong one. I really want to get this right (ha ha).

Right now I am stuck between a 250 or 450 GTS

We would really need to get a solid budget to determine what the best card is in that price range.

If it's $100 and below, i'd probably spend an extra $20 and get this HD 5750: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_558&item_id=030795

or

Spend an extra $20, on this EVGA GTS 450 Superclocked card: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_559&item_id=033348

Edit:
Right now I am stuck between a 250 or 450 GTS

The 450 is the better card..

Around $100 at the most. I don't mind going over that a tab. Everything recommend so far is great.

Yeah, I am leaning heavily towards this if it is that much better. Is the Radeon that much better than the 450? I want a good, solid, card that's going to last me a few years. One or two, at least, and the price is very decent on this one.

Yeah, is would have to be. Ha ha.

That GTS 450 Superclocked should be better then the 5750. They're both solid cards though, especially for the little gaming you want to do.

Hey SeanC the gpu on that motherboard will run circles around your radeon 9500 , maybe you should try that out first , and if it dosn't meet your needs then get a better gpu

I think you will quite surpised at how good it is !

I came here to say what FishHead69 said. I don't see a point in wasting money on a graphics card when your onboard graphics will be more than enough for your stated uses.

My mobo has a similar onboard GPU and I was gaming with it for quite a while before I found a good deal on a card. I could play Battlefield 2 and most source games at high settings and 1920x1080 resolution.

So the consensus is that I should keep the graphics card that is integrated for now and then upgrade later when I need to (since I am only going to be playing WoW for the moment).

Will it run WoW beautifully and smooth or just get by?

It should run pretty smooth on integrated graphics. But personally, i think you might as well just throw in a low-end discrete GPU like a GT 240 or something just for good measure.

WOW definitely isn't a demanding game, so i have no doubt you can run it fairly well on the integrated chip, but why not just spend a little extra for something that will definitely run it smooth as well as any other game you might want to play at decent settings?

Well, I'll probably end up going with the 450 Superclocked. It's not that expensive and I might throw it in there just because.

I really appreciate everyone's help, though. It was definitely educational.

The ATI 5770 performs slightly better than the GTS 450 and costs about the same.

Also

If you are going midrange get the GTX 460 768MB.
