New option in cat 10.10? Do not install!

Been getting BSOD or just screen freeze the last few days after installing 10.10, due to atikmdag.sys. HD4870.

Though playing videos doesn't trigger the hang or BSOD all the time, it always happened just a split second after I double click on a video file. Furmark or playing starcraft gives no such problems.

The strange thing is, normally you would expect a corrupted image on screen when stuff like that happens. However, the images on my screen were perfectly frozen.

Normally I would only install CCC and ati driver, but I think I forgot to uncheck the highlighted option below.

Don't think I'll have any problems after this.. just a heads up for you guys. :rockout:

Hmm, what player do you use, and did you install other codecs for WMV9 and/or VC-1 playback?

I'm using Media Player Classic, and CCCP "codec" pack. Before I upgraded from 10.5 to 10.10, there were no problems.

When you installed 10.5, did you leave the VMV9/VC-1 stuff unchecked?

BTW, I always prefer to not use any codec packs at all, and use VLC player instead (will support every current format).

I've got a 4870 and I've chosen to install that WMV9 codec without any issues. The only difference here is that I don't use any other codec packs, just VLC. High-five Chevalr1c!

Hmm so that option is not new? I've never noticed it being there before, but I'm very sure I didn't check it. Because my usual method of installing cat, is to uncheck everything (so much crap) then check CCC and Driver.

VLC player is da bomb, but I find that CCCP + media player classic does a better job of playing anime with fancy subs and stuff. Vlc is my backup.

i use MPC-HC from CCCP, and have no trouble with that option installed.

while it likely has solved your problem, the blame likely lies elsewhere - but its obvious its a codec issue of some kind.

VLC is not a perfect solution, as there are formats it sucks at. SPDIF audio, is a clear example.
