Shoot, turns out that other adapter doesn't fit.

I was looking at it upside down :\

Namslas, when you say check BIOS settings without the card, what do you mean?

I don't have onboard video, the only other option right now is reinstalling the 5770...

if need be, then yes.

also, mobo specs pls.

No, but I think it does boot because when it doesn't boot it turns off almost instantly upon pressing the power button, but when it does boot it takes 3-5 seconds, and it does take about 5 seconds to manually shut down.

ATM all I know is that it's ASRock and it is Crossfire enabled.

quick look at bios shows nothing, so forget that. Reseting cmos may help though. Use instructions in users manual pg. 22. online here; ftp://174.142.97.10/manual/M3A770DE.pdf

Are you referring to this?

Clear CMOS Jumper
(CLRCMOS1)
(see p.10, No. 10)
Note: CLRCMOS1 allows you to clear the data in CMOS. The data in CMOS includes
system setup information such as system password, date, time, and system
setup parameters. To clear and reset the system parameters to default setup,
please turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the power
supply. After waiting for 15 seconds, use a jumper cap to short pin2 and pin3
on CLRCMOS1 for 5 seconds. However, please do not clear the CMOS right
after you update the BIOS.
_________________________________________________________________

I don't have any idea how to do that, and I also don't know where CLRCMOS1 is on the mobo

Wait a minute, hold the phone...

It keeps getting stuck at "Starting Windows"

Anyone know how to fix this? Should I try booting into Safe Mode instead?

Slow down, easy to make mistakes when nervous. Build it yourself or bought already built?

I bought it custom-built.

Any help with the "Starting Windows" thing?

with all the bad boot attempts I would ride it out for a bit, it is likely trying to fix itself from all the booting that was going on since it last ran correctly.

As long as you are still seeing movement I would wait, if the PC is frozen that is a different issue.

What movement? Does the "Starting Windows" logo normally move at all?

This is W7, and all I see is the little animation to form the W logo, and then it just sits like that, I left it for 3 minutes once.

usually there is a blue circle where your arrow used to be. That will spin at times. aside from that maybe keep an eye on the LED activity light on the case. If its off or solid, i say its froze, if its flickering, I would assume its windows fixing stuff.

Well it doesn't get to the point where I see a cursor.

I will however check out that LED light and see if it is doing anything, thanks.

Oh yeah so the logo animation does stop after about 10sec, but the PC makes some "working" sounds (as I call them) and the activity lights light up along with it.

However there are some long pauses between when it starts activity, and it stops after a couple seconds.

I'll leave it on for a bit, but if this doesn't work, any other ideas?

EDIT: I would also like to say that I'm frantically googling for solutions while replying, so pardon me if my replies take a while :}

if it fails to go to windows, there is trying to boot into safe mode, but I think it may boot if given the time to work out the kinks first. If it was gonna give up its guts, it would be frozen or BSOD'd by now.

Okay, I'll give it another ten minutes, I think it's been about 5 so far.

If all else fails, should I try and maybe install the video cards drivers with Safe Mode and Networking?

I don't have the drivers cd so I would have to head online, hence the Networking.

I'll report back in ten :)

Hmm...

haven't seen or heard any activity for a while, and I'm just about at the 10 minute mark.

So should I try to boot to Safe Mode and get the 5850 drivers online?

Woah weird...

Just did a hard restart and it didn't say "Windows did not shutdown properly" and offer safemode.

Oh well, I'll restart again. Hope that's not a bad sign...

EDIT: It keeps doing this... how again do I make it boot to safe mode???

I just entered BIOS and in Chipset Settings it has Primary Graphics Adapter set to PCI, should I change it to PCI Express?
