I am running 2 - GTX 285's in SLI and 3 - Dell E248WFP 24" monitors am thinking about getting a third GTX 285. But concerned with the amount of power it will be using. Meaning power bill. Was looking at getting a 6950 and using a 6970 bios. Now am looking at a XFX Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition 2GB card.

i want a card that can handle my 3 - 24" monitors for gaming. But don't want to spend an arm and a leg either.

So what do you guys think?

So you say 1 6950 with a 6970 bios can run all 3 - 24" monitors with a real good frame rate?

i would say 2 of them would kill any 5970 out there! :nutkick: but even 1 6950 would do the trick. btw get 1 now, try it and if it doesn't suit you buy another one, crossx them and get ready for the kill!!! :respect:

That will not work. My is a EVGA 780i FTW only supports SLI and TRI SLI. No Crossfire. And I do not plan on buying a new or used motherboard anytime soon.

Well just looked at that review and the review of the 6970. As for frames there's about 10 to 15 frames increase with the 6970 over the 6950. Not really that much. The 5970 beats the crap out of both of them. And in that review of the 6950 the 5870 beat it in 3 out of the 5 games I looked at. And said the say but the GTX 480, 570 and 580 beat the crap out of the 6950, 6970. But not the 5970. It looks like I may think the 5970 is the card to get.

note 1: 480 much warmer, way higher power consumption, and the drivers are at their best at the moment dont wait better, earlier generation
note 2: 5970 dual gpu monster yes, the drivers are at the same point as of the 480, earlier generation
note 3: both 6950 and 6970 are 3 months old, way cooler than any of the nvidia cards you said, lower power consumption and their drivers are going to be better by the day rest assured. you could look at the 6990 also, the new king of the block dual monster also but do you need it really? my guess after looking at your specs would be either a 6950 or a 6970 and trying to overclock your cpu a bit also. another thing would be to try and sell wour cpu-mobo-gpu-memories combo and get a new combo like my own or a new SandyBridge I7 2500k together with a P67 mobo, DDR 3 memories and a 6950/6970 and you'd be perfect. but that's just my opinion.

Yes the 480 is a hot card. If I could swing the money I buy a pair of GTX 570's or GTX 580's. I am a NV fanboy. And the do beat the 6970 and 6950. But since I cannot swing it I'll take the 5970. I believe it will do way better with my 3 - 34" monitors. The 6950 and 6970 are fine but to handle 3 - 34" monitors you have to have a pair of either and run in crossfire.

The reviews of the 6950 and 6970 where done here TPU and they showed the 5970 kicking butt.

As i said the 5970 is a dual gpu monster (2*5870 gpu's with 5850 core and memory clocks). :rockout:
It's a great card, it kicks the hell out of almost any card at the moment (except of the 590, and 6990) but it is going to be EOL(end of life) shortly and that's my only concern about it, otherwise it just says "give me more and more i can handle it"! :respect:
For your specs will be an overkill but a good investment for the future sure!
Whatever you decide to take, enjoy it! I'm enjoying mine at the moment for sure! :D

Yes the 5970is dual gpu. I think it needs it to run 3 monitors. That's why I said a pair of 6950 or 6970 in crossfire would handle the 3 monitors. See dual gpu's. My res is 5760 X 1200.
