I really do not think you can for 500 bucks . maybe look on Craigslist or Ebay . But 500 buck is hardly going to get you a case , PSU , MB , CPU , Video card , HDD and whatever ells you will need . Better start looking at the news papers as well .

you can easily get a nice cheap gaming pc for $500, me im a laptop guy and I know someone here will be able to give you better parts advice then I can.

yeah to do a $500 gaming computer. you will need to go to the FS section and buy from people or get a pre-built

Here is a quick list i whipped up. A very basic setup. If you have a mouse, keyboard, monitor then you can save some money and pump it into your video card. The card fits the monitor resolution and you would be able to play games at decent settings.

Once You Know, You Newegg

About the best I can do if you want to buy new and must have a quad, it should be right at $500 with rebates. If you want you can drop down to a dual, or even a triple core, and get under $500.

For most games, a dual core is fine.

Even a dual core is good for gaming. Use a Phenom black edition BE550 . 3.1 gigs and can overclock stable at 3.6 gigs and some of them could unlock to 3 and 4 cores.

This route is expensive, but you'd have a BEAST

2.8 is alright but for gaming you may want to Overclock to maybe 3.2 then you'd be good but all over all 2.8 is good enough. heck mine @stock is good enough for most games
