True on the reinstall, but then you don't ever learn anything about not doing something again and/or fixing it if you do.

This is why I hate system restore. My dad uses this any time something goes wrong and takes more then a couple of seconds to fix. Usually ends up worse in some way then before. Thanks to this it takes my parents laptop minutes to boot just to the log in screen. uuuh.

Fixing it is taking as long as it takes to reinstall OS.
Open up the audio app, click the folder mastrdrver mentioned earlier, and slide me a screenshot if you would be so kind my good sir.
That?

Very true ;)

The folder just below "Device Advanced Settings". What options does it give there?

I know what the problem is. I feel like an idiot if this is it.

Do you still have the speakers plugged in to the green jack?

Move it to the orange looking one (next one over next to it). See if that fixes it.

Open up that folder thing, check the box "disable front panel jack detection", unplug all speakers/headphones and reboot. When Windows has rebooted, plug speakers into the green jack, cross fingers and play a song.

Do n00b checks, like making sure volumes are turned up on the speakers, in the Mixer in the System Tray, etc.
Man these MSI boards are a right laugh.

Good grief. 12 hours?!!?! Is that continuous???

Well, I guess I've gone days trying to figure out things too. Just as "simple" once solved.

edit: ok, I bed now. Glad you got it fixed. Got to remember MSI front panel gay thing next time.
