Hi folks,

I personally hate the CCC (or whatever it is caled now; Fusion-something) because it is slow on load, slow on usage, hogs waaaay too much memory and this all for just ten checkboxes - WTF!?

Therefore I usually install only the display driver and Afterburner and I'm fine with that.

Now, the only thing I miss from CCC is the chance to change the PowerTune-settings. That I'd like to do without the CCC. Is there a way to change this? (driver config, registry settings, etc.)

Thanks!

Great! Do you know which key this is?

When searching for "powertune registry" in google this thread appears on top, with nothing related later on -.-

Seems like I'll have to install this CCC and make a registry compare with different PowerTune-settings myself.

Will post here if I find something interesting

been there, done that.

First I tried comparing two registry-exports with different values for the PowerTune setting (-5 and +20). There have been some differences, but mostly MRUs, timestamps and so on. No bitmasks or values have shown up which would correspond to these values or would have been in the correct place of the registry.

Second try was using ProcMon wathing CCC.exe when changing the PowerTune-value. There are tons of registry accesses logged, but when I removed the RegOpenKey, RegCloseKey, RegQueryKey and RegQueryValue operations (leaving only file ops and registry writes), there was not much left. The only writing access being meaningful was accessing the Profiles.xml in the user's directory, which holds to the settings of the CCC "Performance" site.

Having no registry- or other-than-Profile.xml-writing found I wonder if in CCC is something that directly programs the card. So this stuff wouldn't be done by the driver but by the CCC application.
To falsify this I would need to set PowerTune so, say +20, benchmark, remove CCC, benchmark again and see if the PowerTune was fallen back to 0 (because CCC does not change the value after bootup) or stays at +20 (in this case CCC might not be necessary for this setting to become active, or CCC has changed a sticky value at the card, thus uninstalling left it at this state)

Any insights?

then you didn't look in the right place .. i'm 99% sure it's in that tree in the registry

I'm 99.99% sure there isn't.

Guess I should have chimed in sooner, but thanks scooper22 for confirming what I did some time back.
There is no reg entry that I can find either.
Basically did same things scooper22 did.
Compared reg files, monitored writes, etc..
The only place I can find anything related to the PT is in the profile file.
No where else.

when I saw this thread, was hoping W1zzard somehow came across any entry I missed somewhere.

I was hoping there was a reg entry, since on a driver only install, the profile file isn't even installed, so the driver does rely on reg entries for "default" settings, but nothing in there related to PT.:banghead:
So same boat, If I want the extra PT, I'm forced to use the slow buggy CCC, that spends more time writing error entries in the Aceeventlog than anything else, and a single speed fan control.:shadedshu

Yup, that key is "PowerControl_0" (for the first card) with "Want" for the value.

As TimoX pointed out (and that concurs with my findings) this file is only used by CCC and is not even existent if CCC isn't installed.
Therefore this file is bound to CCC: no CCC, no file; no file, no settings for PowerTune -> so no CCC, no settings for PowerTune.
