New Build Problem?

I started on my new build, and it won't boot, there's a red light on my video card and there's a red light near the RAM, what did I do wrong?

Use "user CP" in blue bar above to post ALL specs. EXAMPLE: It would be helpful to know which which MOTHERBOARD you have.

It could be the CPU is not getting 12v power because you didn't connect the 4 or 8 pin power to that connection near the CPU.

I put my system specs now and the 4pin ATX cable is plugged in.

try using just one stick of ram (one of them could be dodgy)

So I tried using doing that but it still won't work, it'll just start for 2-3 seconds and shut off quickly.

Is the mobo installed on the standoffs properly...trying to rule out a shorting on the backside of the mobo to the case. You could try the board outside the case.

Also, are the mobo pins for HD, Power, etc set correctly? A mix up or reversed + and - could cause a problem.

Try reseating Video card... does video need power (2 x 6pins)?

Disconnect Blue Ray or any other non essential for testing.

CPU cooler 3 or 4 pin (for fan) installed?

Sounds like power supply or bad power switch (My case came with a bad power switch it was doing exactly the same thing you describe.)

Yep im thinking PSU problem or switch problem. Take out the cmos battery clear it and let the mobo sit, unplugged with the battery out for about n hour. Unplug all unnecessary things from the pc, including anything usb, externals, etc. Then put the battery back in, plug it in and give it a shot with only one stick of ram as well.

i agree first try put the board off the case, check the pwr pin, reset etc
if necessary unplug anything that connect to the board
i guess the err could be from the board too so check the board first

yep one that indicate it would post is beep, repeat beep indicate theres err on hardware
check the heatsink of chip too, after you turn it on it should warm
