You, at least, need to update the
bios to 1.5 to support the i7 870 per the cpu support list:
CPU Support
Well, you tried it and it didn't work. Put the bios on a USB stick and flash it from the bios utility.
+1 Do what erocker stated.
If you have the
manual read it for instructions on how, if not
download it and print out the necessary info.
It is called M-Flash... M-flash is on pages 3-27, 3-28 and 3-29 of the
manual.
If, after the bios update, it still does not work, try this:
1. Turn off and un-plug the PSU from the wall
2. Remove the CMOS battery
3. Hold down the Start Button for 10 seconds or so
4. Install new CPU and mount cooler(plus re-install any connectors or devices you knock loose or took loose)
5. Install the CMOS battery(with the correct side down, usually the + side up)
6. Plug the PSU back into the wall and turn it on
7. Check your boot order and settings in the bios -save and exit the bios
8. See if it will now boot into windows
If it works, then, clean up windows device manager, run Windows Experience Index (grins & giggles test), and test with what ever apps you use(like
prime95,
realtemp,
HWinfo32,
HWMonitor,
cpu-z, etc.).
Good luck!
