To all 6990 owners - Noise issues

Hi all,

i have upgraded to 6990 and i have to say it seems the performance is great(at least in benchmarks).

The issue which i am facing though is a different one.

The card when i am in a 3d game(resolution 2500X1600 all setting high) seems to be creating mroe noise than a turbine....
d
oes anybody else who owns one of this monsters has an issue with it?

Yep, common thing on 6990s im afraid, they do start getting louder with fan speeds of 70% and above, hence im going to be ordering a waterblock for mine

which one are u thinking of doing? I am a bit of noob when it comes to watercooling. i already have a watercooling system which delivers water to mobo and CPU. when i tried to have water through one system delivered to 3 parts(GPU, CPU and mobo) i had so and so results. so if i am going to apply watercooling i would like to have a seperate system.

Ill be going for the EK waterblock for mine, I have a very good loop at the minute so although it will dump extra heat im good with that

i use the KOLOLANCE ready radiator.. do you think it can manage one more card???

is the 6990 dual gpu? or am i thinking of the 5990?

Edit - Yes it is... i'd want another radiator for that card :/

In the meantime, maybe you could use something like sapphire Trixx to make a custom fan profile that grades the fan speed up, rather than stepping it up..

i have a xfx 6990 and yes ,,,,, gets loud ,,, when i max out flight sim x i dont need to even have the speakers on , the card sounds just like the plane im flying ,,,

High end cards always produce alot of heat so if you can afford such thing you better have aftermarket or watercooling
