How do I set this up properly? I have a 8x IBM CD-ROM, a SoundBlaster 16 on ISA and a Pentium-S era motherboard. I think I have to plug the CDROM into the sound card, correct? If so what jumper settings should the CDROM have? (Slave, Master, Cable Select) i am very confused as it seems so far Windows 95 can't see my CDROM. I should probably be more specific about my motherboard as well, the motherboard has two IDE controllers.

If your motherboard has a seperate IDE connector (i.e. two or more) then use that. If not, use your sound card's IDE interface and set the drive to master. Then go into the BIOS and set up the drive.

is it possible for the CD-ROM to be too new?

There's more chance of it being plugged in wrong; set the CD ROM jumper to slave if it's on the same cable as your HDD. If it's on a different cable, set it to master.

Also, make sure your HDD jumper is set to master and not cable select.

If you can plug the CD ROM into the motherboard instead of the sound card, that would be easiest.

Which version of the sound blaster you've got?
if your SB is PnP then there shouldn't be any issue, but in the times I used a CD rom on a SB, it had a DOS driver. Not sure how windows will take that IDE port.

Nice to hear someone trying to make use of all good stuff.

SoundBlaster 16 + PC games + Childhood = Beautiful life.
