ok so this is my first build, i have just got all my hardware installed and i powered up and everything worked!:D but then i realized that there is no display. I am supposed to install drivers after operating system is installed right? but i can't do anything because i have no display...

techy stuff: I'm using my tv as my display I'm using a DVI - HDMI cable (I have tried the DVI - VGA adapter that came with the video card) I'm using a msi 550 video card. I'm using an old motherboard - asus p5n-d but it has a green light that is green when i power up, if that helps. my tv is recognizing that there is something connected but it just says 'no signal'

no i have no idea what to do:(

thanks in advance.

If it says "no signal," then it means there is no connection. Usually if there is a connection but no image, the display (in this case the TV) would just be blank.

I agree with t_ski, if the TV says no signal, then you are either not putting your TV on the right input channel, or your display cords are not wired correctly.

Does the TV happen to say "UnSupport" on it after you plug in your display cord?

Hi

Go to User CP and fill in your system spec's brand names of your hardware and OS that you have installed, this will help other members of TPU assist you further

Have you got a manual with your TV? look through this if you have it should allow you to select the input device.

nb:you may need to select the DVI input in the TV settings and tell the TV what you have attached to it (DVI 1, DVI 2 or vga) Your TV will tune to TV channels by default, I have to use my remote for my HDTV navigate to the DVI ports to add your PC as a new device, this is what I had to do with mine.

e.g: DVI 1 could have a game console attached, DVI 2 could have a SKy Box and so on (if you have HDMI to VGA (VGA input on your TV) attach that for the time being as it will allow you to narrow down the possibilities.

Let us know what make and model your TV is! this will help

Hope this helps

Hi

Thanks, you may have a different issue in this case. Have you got access to a PC Monitor you can test your new build on.

We will need to know what hardware you have and OS you will be installing, to assit further

Hi

It may be worth a shot at resetting the motherboard bios unplug your pc from the wall socket,( you will need to find the reset jumper on the motherboard) and or remove the mother board battery for a few minutes.

nb: for the time being continue to use the old Dell monitor "if you know it works" just to narrow things down

Try reseating the GPU aswell and make sure you have pluged the 6 or 8 pin power cable into the GPU if it needs it.

Do you hear any beep sounds when you turn the pc on?

sorry about that, it's done now :)

and do you mean reset the (rtc) ram in cmos... i have no idea what that actually is but i just read somehting in my motherboard manual where it says about taking the battery out... the manual says to move the jumper cap from 1-2 pins to pins 2-3 after removing the battery then put the battery back in, hold the del button while system boots and then enter previous bios settings. if this is not what you are talking about should i just take the battery out and then put it back in?

Have you tried running the system without the RAM just to get some beeps out of the system?

Hi

go with unplugging your PC from the wall taking the battery out of the mother board for a few minutes, it will do what you need it to do which is reset the bios

nb: may be worth having a look at this link as I think this is the path we are on http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30165

Buzz?

Should be a beep every 3-4 seconds.
Now insert one stick into either the first or the second slot and power up the machine again.

Just try the first and second slots for now with one stick of ram.

Try slot one first.

I have come across some motherboards which will only boot up with the ram in slot 2 and not slot one which is why I suggested it.

If it does not work, try the other stick of ram and repeat the process.

Hi

Only leave the battery out for a few minutes and then replace it, you will need this in the motherboard to allow it to keep working settings in the system bios.

i'll try only one stick in slot one and two now :)

:):) ok the i have finally got display with the only one stick of ram in slot two :)

now i should follow the manual instructions of setting up the bios and then install OS and then take the ram stick out and put two sticks in, in slots 1 and 3? or should i install OS first and then set up bios (i guess i should go and learn what bios are...)

Benchmark Scores 2cm mark on bench with a razor blade.

Okay so we know this is one of those Motherboards which want you to put the RAM into slots two and four.

So don't bother placing the ram into slot 1 and 3.
Yuo will get the same dual channel performance having them run in 2 and 4.
