Hitting a Wall at 3.8 ghz w/ 1090t

Hey Tpu members,

What has happened here since I took a vacation a couple years ago? I've come back here because I doubt that any other forum could help me with this issue. I am hitting an overclocking wall at 3.8 ghz with my m4a78e motherboard and 1090t cpu. I've only been raising the multiplier, however even at 1.5 volts anything greater than 18x has not been stable.

Ive disabled cnq and c1e to no avail. My gskill 1066 mhz ddr2 will not run any faster than 800mhz (but i have been trying to oc at those memory speeds.) Should I also disable turbo core?

I'm running a swiftech watercooling setup and my cpu load temperature is 40 degrees at 1.5 volts by the way.

Would you like me to take screenshots of my bios settings? My computer is at Quakecon so I can grab some in a few hrs.

My system specs are not current. I'll update those soon.

If i`m not mistaken the 1090T is at a wall because the 1100t replaced it with the prime wafers.So the wall could be between 3.8 or 3.9.

I've updated my specs. I would be very disappointed if I ended up getting a less-than-stellar processor lol. This was the most expensive one on Newegg at the time (about 2 weeks ago).

It's your motherboard limiting things. It just doesn't have enough power delivery to get you any higher stable unfortunately. That motheroard just isn't good a clocking a power hungry 6 core.

Think that it would work better if I get a northbridge water block, bump the voltage up on that, and increase the cpu voltage to 1.55?

I guess that I should keep an eye out for a used motherboard... I do not feel like purchasing a brand new board right now when Bulldozer is right around the corner. Do you know of a good motherboard that would deliver the power that I need and that would work better with this memory?

W/C'ing the NB won't make a difference. The board only has a 4 pin CPU connector. With BD right around the corner, no better time to pick up a Crosshair V.

Cool! I didn't know that the 900 series boards had been released yet.

What is the benefit of going with the Crosshair when I can pick one of these up for $85 less? Asus is also selling the Sabertooth for $50 less than the Crosshair.
