Internet not performing on my pc only.

Hi everyone,

Iam having a very confusing internet problem, my wireless internet speed is slow from last couple of days and i have tried alot to get around it but seems like my router hates me or sumthing.

I have 1pc, 1laptop, 1macbook and 1i-mac all in one connected to the router.
The problem came up with the imac and pc and sometimes with the laptops.

SpeedTest shows download speeds of around 6mbps and upload speeds of 1-2 mbps on the computer/imac.

On the latop it shows 25+ maxing around 30 dwn and 5 mbps up but sometimes it slowed down to the speeds above.

I reset the router and the dsl and still problems in the i mac and pc, laptop no issues.
I reset the imac and turned the wireless off and then on in i mac and it gets normal speeds.
I did the same with my pc to no avail.

Still slow speeds, updated my drivers etc but nothing. i have a wireless usb card
Tenda-w311u.

Now on my computer it shows wireless speeds of under 65mbps which was faster before.
On my laptop which is further away it still shows 130mbps....


My pc is the closest then the laptop then i macbook and last and furthest is the Imac.

Where is your wireless USB card?

cause I had the same kind of problem, mine was to close to the floor... yeah sound stupid, but my friend told me that and guess what, it was the problem.. I did use the dlink extension cable, put my USB wiereless onto the desk and now I got my 150mbps instead of 115 down to 2mbps with poor signal..

Also, remember that the laptop use the monitor sas antenna, so it's kinda better to get a good connection if you are far..

if all your PC's have wireless N cards switch your router back to N only instead of NG mix or mixed

Do some trouble shooting
1) Hard wire your desktop to see what your speeds are

2) Delete all history and cookies

2) Get a brand name PCI wireless card and try it

Where is your wireless USB card?

Mine is in the middle from the roof and the floor. and its been there for around a year and hasnt had these problems before and I think (not a fact) it might be using the case aswell to attract signal?

I hvnt tried direct connection on my desktop because its alot of things to move here and there but i will try it tomm.

I reset my dsl and wireless router but no fix

its not only my pc being affected, its was other too before but they are working fine
i will get a pci when i hv money, but the person at the shop told me the usb is faster so i bought tht as it was n also...

i have a tenda card, the 65Mb you're seeing is a driver bug. you have to double it to see the speed you're really getting (its showing your upload speed only, instead of up+down combined - no idea why, but mine does it too)


My guess is its something on your PC slowing it down, antivirus, firewall, or some manually set DNS entries that are slowing it down.


edit: there is no speed loss running a USB wifi card, even USB 2.0 is still miles above the speed you can get on wifi N. I've got first hand experience on this, as i run wifi N myself.

well like i said the i mac had the same trouble and started the same time, it got fix with wireless network adapter reset on the mac, mine still has the prob but doesnt go away with a restart or driver reinstall.
Also it started couple of days ago while i has not done any software or hardware changes at all, internet settings are all auto.

what did you change in the last couple of days? if nothing then you have a hardware problem or somebody is hacking your wlan.

uh, so what is your WAN speed supposed to be? you do know your WLAN and your LAN speed are completely separate from your WAN speed, right?

If u mean the speed provided by the provider then its 32mbps dwn and 6 up
sorry but i have never ever run into wan before

even wifi N will crippled that, unless you've got a perfect signal.


as far as windows is concerned, at ~250Mb sync i get ~3MB/s between my two machines - and your 32Mb connection is 4MB/s
