Great. Now I have to build a supercluster just to get some chips :/

FX or Opteron, doesn't matter too much to me as not being able to overclock isn't a deal breaker, I'll just make up by getting 2 or 4 Opterons. But it looks like it'll be some time til either series is available. :(

Personally I want to see a full suite run against these chips superpi, wprime the whole shebang. I could care less if these chips are not made for...wait aww shit these are made for number crunching.

I'm pretty sure JF-AMD said they do not have plans to release desktop-based Opteron chips, but who knows what the partners will do.

IIRC JF said there will not be any opteron chips released onto a non-server style chipset. AMD currently has 2 server sockets one of which will handle quad chips and the other to be run in single and duals. The boards capable of running the single and dual chips will be considered workstation series boards and will not be set up for overclocking. This is not going to be another quadFX fiasco.

Not everyone needs to overclock, either...I'm starting to question the usefulness, myself. Mind you, I never was looking for more core performance from AMD. I just want what I think is decent multicard, and I just might get it soon.

integer performance VS Xeon

10.65625 per thread for the Xeon E7520 4 core Hyperthreading enabled 1.866Ghz
16 per thread for 6128 8 core 2Ghz

It is good to note that they used slower but more memory in the Intel rigs tested against, VS the AMD, so more memory = slower timings, plus slower memory, what effect that will actually have on this test I am unsure.

What I am reading from this is they have increased the IPC enough their extra cores will make up the difference in multithreaded applications that are demanding, but possibly not much on a core VS core performance level. Either way if they are faster while cheaper I am happy with that.

Doesn't look too shabby, though it seems that IPC per core still not as good as I hoped.

We can safely assume that desktop counterpart performance won't be too far apart with this right?

I only overclock an old machine, nothing brand new but this core unlock business is pretty good,

Tell you truth Overclocking aint wut it used to be, it seems to have gone mainstream. Just like having shift paddles on ur street cars n sport shift for automatics- its getting boring to me. Better off just buying the fastest processor you can get n just leave it set.

If there were 2 way Opteron boards that support 64 Gigs of ram n plenty of PCI E 16 slots on a board ill pick one up over a phenom 2 anymore.

Last I came Here to Help People not bicker over who's penis is bigger. Tell you truth I think a few of the news casters here n some mods n most here need to get laid.

AMD Bulldozer - October 2011 -
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe somebody already talked about the reason why AMD delayed the Bulldozer CPU. It has nothing to do with whether Bulldozer is completed or not, they've been already packaged and waiting for mass shipments and/or they've already been shipped. The only logical explination IMHO is they are trying to flush out current Phenom II's. I mean they are already selling for killer prices such as $145 and less. If AMD was to release the Bulldozer CPU's say tomorrow, they would be forced to further drop the prices of current PII's by as much as 50% IMO.

Anyway here's two links with more information. Like always take this information with an organic grain of salt....
