I'm helping a friend build a crappy computer, just some spare parts, an Athlon X2 7850 and Radeon HD 2400 PRO. The things lights up, the fans spins but I'm not sure its posting and it won't detect the monitor, I've tried everything, messing around with the RAM, unplugging etc. nothing seems to work. What do you think is wrong and what should I do get this thing to work?

The motherboard is an Asrock N68C-S UCC. Unfortunately I don't have access to another PSU right now, everything seems to be working fine with the the PSU though. The Video card is a Radeon HD 2400 PRO DEFINITELY doesn't need any external power. There is an Nvidia IGP but I don't have any VGA cables to use to test it

Sorry been completely swamped past few days. It could be an onbaord issue, might drag a monitor over there to see if it works since the onboard is just VGA and the current monitor can only take DVI, also all my DVI/VGA converters are male DVI/female VGA which is kinda useless in this situation. You know what I HAVEN'T cleared the CMOS, thats when you take out the battery and put it back in correct?

Some of the newer boards requires the jumper to be set as well as pulling battery and unplugging power supply. Currently working on the same issue but without onboard video on an older machine. So would like to watch this thread closely.

Also I should have mentioned this in my last post, the CPU I was trying to use, turns out it wasn't posting (no beep code) so I tested another one (an Athlon X4 620) and it seems to have worked (posted, didn't try plugging in a monitor... which weas kinda dumb in hindsight), unfortunately I needed that CPU for something else so I took it back and put an old Athlon 64 X2 3800+ AM2 CPU in there and now its not working, what are the chances of 2 dead CPUs with one that seems to have worked in the middle?

Still got that x4 handy? If you do, try that again and see if gives you USB ports. To me it sounds either a motherboard or power supply issue though.

I think it may be a PSU problem to, I dug up a PS/2 Keyboard and its still not detecting what else could the problem be? :banghead:

I guess some info on the PSU would be useful, it is a crappy PSU, an Orion P4-485 485W Power Supply but all he's got in there now is a Radeon HD 2400 PRO (which requires no 4 pin) and an athlon X2 260, not a very high powered system at all
