Steam problem

When I start Steam it comes up normally then when I go to start a game it checks for Steam game updates & it waits & waits until the cancel button comes up. It also says a lot of my games are not installed when they are. Any suggestions?

go into your steam folder and delete clientregistry.blob, then restart steam

I read in the past, that changing your download location may help via steam settings, then restart steam. If that doesnt work, reinstalling steam should...

I had the same problem for 7 days.
I then deleted steam.dll, steamclient.dll, steamUI.dll and the .blob file

You can try that? MAKE SURE YOU move your steamapps folder to another location!

In other words back up your games with Steam, and copy steamapps also, just in case.
Uninstall STeam
Reinstall STeam
Restore backup

Well you can copy "steamapps" folder to another location 1st then delete everything on steam folder except "steam.exe" double click it afterwards and let it re-download/install client, don't log in 1st. Then copy paste back the steamapps folder. Log in and let it re-register the games.

Nah you just need to copy out your steamapps folder. Reinstall Steam then copy it back before logging in. It will just "reactivate" all the installed games. No need to use the Steam Backup function.
