New cooler needed for my ATI 5850

Time has come for a change. The bloody turbine mounted on the card (yes it IS much better than stock cooler on previous line, but not enough) started tot get noisy and it cannot be fixed by cleaning it anymore, and on top of that my new case is not that solid so it doesn't absorb vibrations/noise too well (even though I hoped Lian-Li would be just as good as Antec if not better). I am looking for replacement. I like the stock cooler's idea though - suck it out directly. Unfortunately these can't be silent by design I guess (high RPM needed for this kind of job), so I will probably have to stick with with what we have been using for decades. Is Accelero S1r2 (do I remember it right) still the king? I remember my old 4870 - I left the red plate on the card and mounted Accelero "through" that. Worked like a charm. the only thing I don't like about this cooler is it lacks robustness. It always looked like it could fall apart if I poke it with my little finger. So what would you guys recommend?

Twin turbo pro will b fine. Got 1 on me 5870 and never goes over 60.

Just make sure you have 2 slots free under the GPU if you chose the AC Twin Turbo option.

Thanks, but these monsters are out of question. Cooler with two fans is not what I want. The less stuff making noise the better.

In my experience, the Twin Turbo is very quiet. It's better to have two fans rotating at 1000 rpm that one rotating at 1500 rpm (always talking about similar fans).

Another possibility is the Thermalright Shaman. It's also very quiet.

The Twin Turbo is honestly quieter than the typical reference fans which use those mouse wheel type barrel fans.

I don't know if the 5850s are able to do this, but I flashed the BIOS on my HD4850 so the fans have auto speed.
Max rpms on my original Twin Turbo is 2k rpm and it never needs to get that high even with the immense heat the HD4850 would push out on the stock fan.

Holy shit!!!! That's a big fucker.

Too bad there is no good VRM and whatever else cooler available. Thermalright makes decent stuff, but you need big tower case or something with all those things sticking out.

I will probably upgrade to new line of Radeon next year, so I hope I can find something that will be compatible - but I don't have my hopes too high as I heard AMD completely changed the design.

The accelero is totally quiet and awesome.

I recommend getting a 6950/6970 twin frozr instead though.

thermalright shaman is 3 slots with 140mm fan and is very quiet and cool! but you also have to buy a vrm cooling part for it

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. My 5850 jet turbine started rattling and making a high pitched squeal whenever I powered my PC up.

The fan finally died, and I got myself a Gelid Icy Vision R.2 cooler. It installed easily and has been working perfectly since. The toughest part about the install was peeling the double sided tape off the strips to use them.

I got mine during a sale, so it was cheaper than they are going for today.

It is pretty quiet even when I have the card overclocked @ 1050mhz GPU / 1200 VRAM.

See if you can buy one second handm that way you'll save a good bit of money.
If you can bear the sound, and you think the fan will hold up a little longer, you can try to wit until the next gen cards come out.

I tried waiting it out, but my fan completely died.

Clean the fan and axle, then put 1 or 2 drops of car engine oil at the axle and it should hold a good time. Maybe will not get silent again, but will not die anytime soon.

Oh I am not afraid of dying fan, it's just the sound.
I checked my case and unfortunately I can't get those Thermalright shinies - not enough room. It still surprises me why most of not all companies are making either GPU- or "the rest"-only coolers. One massive monster to cover it all would be awesome product.

I gotta check what else makes any sounds. A bit curious about those fan supplied with the case. I dislike too many moving parts so I disconnected the front one so far, but maybe I should change those three years old Noctuas
