sounds like they are attempting a repair then in that case.

I just returned it to the shop and I've been told that video card RMAs take usually between 5 and 8 weeks, doesn't necessarily mean they will attempt to repair it, hopefully not

oops. my bad. i was kinda drunk last night. sorry.

6-8weeks, may also mean that they cant find a replacement of the same model.

No big deal ;)

yeah. RMA's can take a while unfortunately. Sometimes Asus ones can take a lot longer - Some of the members here have been waiting longer then 6months for their R.O.G mobos to be returned but theres been no word so they just went out and bought another one instead of waiting.

the first time I RMA'd my 4870. they had repaired the card. but in repairing the card, they had borked the temperature sensors up so my load temps were registering something like 10 or 15'c under load and 5'c idle which was funny. but it also ment that the cards default profiles wasnt working properly and the card died again within 3weeks of recieving it back.

First time i RMA'd the card. I had accidently chipped the card with the side panel of my case and it had scraped something off it so it wouldnt start without creating a lot of sparks and the smell of burning PCB. second time it died while i was playing MW2 with a mate.

If they return you a 6850 or something then just do what i did and tell the shop manager you cant accept the card as the RMA'd card was part of a dual GPU setup, If youre lucky at all. he will give you store credit. based on the current street value of the 5850 - not the 6850. so youre probably looking at getting 60-70% back for what you originally payed for the card. If you got some cash on hand you can upgrade to something more powerful like a 6950 or GTX570.

That is a really good point, I will with no doubt use it when the time comes.

When I heard it was gonna take so long I went looking for something cheap to grab, 5450 1Gb was selling for 29€. Imma have a look around tonight, I remember I've seen HD6950 1Gb for just 190€, not once. The day gigabyte hits me back, with the HD5850 repaired or with a substitute I will sell it anyway.

Thanks!

If you live around the U.S, why dont you check out the trade section of the forum. Im sure there are some good graphic cards going at decent prices there.

well Ive had people from spain contact me before about shipping overseas - so i dont see why you cant do the same. Depends how much shipping is, and how desperate you are to get whatever it is youre after

Shipping anything of the size of a video card will easily cost 50$ or more & take a week. :p

Like i said, It depends what it is and how badly you want it. Ive bought things from a few US members here. cost me about £10-15 for shipping each time which was so bad. took about a week or 2 to get here. but its a lot quicker then when i order parts from Hong Kong or China on ebay. even though the seller says the item has been dispatched and i can track the item. I tends to spend upto a week in hong kong or china being processed before it eventually reaches the UK. it tends to take about 3weeks or a little more to get here.

I dont mind sending stuff overseas. but usually carrage fees are quite expensive here. so even though someone in the UK might be selling something pretty cheap. shipping will just kill it.

Spainzakhstan :ohwell:

PD: sorry for going off topic :)

EDIT: 5-8 weeks  Where did you buy it? online? I shopped video cards in PCBox and sometimes took me 5 days in replacing it when the component was out of stock!
