I have 2 SSDs, one in my laptop, and one in my desktop. I have been using both for a year, and found it strange that my laptop's SSD sometimes lags, like a hard drive.

Today I ran AS SSD on both
This is the one on my desktop.

Laptop. Cosair P64GBG2D

I aborted the test on the laptop after a while, it was taking too long. Why is the 4k read speed so slow? It seems worst than a HDD. :(

There is something funny happening to SSD overall, after prolong use they seem to drop in performance in a bad manner. I think this has to do with the Windows OS. Picture all the Reads and Writes that go on within the SSD. And if you are not using something like TRIM, then you are killing your SSD's just like anybody else not using it.

Have you tried TRIM support for your SSD? Without something like TRIM your SSD's will die a horrible death.

In computing, a TRIM command allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally. While TRIM is frequently spelled in capital letters, it is not an acronym; it is merely a command name
TRIM was introduced soon after SSDs started to become an affordable alternative to traditional hard disks. Because low-level operation of SSDs differs significantly from traditional hard disks (see details below), the typical way in which operating systems handle operations like deletes and formats (not explicitly communicating the involved sectors/pages to the underlying storage medium) resulted in unanticipated progressive performance degradation of write operations on SSDs.[2] TRIM enables the SSD to handle garbage collection overhead, that would otherwise significantly slow down future write operations to the involved blocks, in advance

Thanks for explaining.
I did some searching, and used commandprompt to run "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify". The result was 0, which is said to mean that TRIM is enabled. /sadface

you ever just log off for the night and leave it? or just let the system sit overnight in the bios screen? Try it, you might get a surprise come morning.

Doing either of the 2 suggestions will let the drive do its garbage collection (TRIM)... also next time you do a reinstall Id recommend making a 10Gb partition so garbage collection isn't interrupted while your machine is working at whatever task you have on the go. More less its a Window and ssd thing that dont play well together.

good luck

Garbage and trim are different idea's of keeping the drive in fully working order.

Anyways you put the SSD out of the laptop in to the computer see if it runs bad still ?.. Just remember boot of the right drive :).

Does the fact that the SSD is partitioned affect anything?
Anyway, I left my laptop on for a whole day in bios settings. Does not seem to help.

Just a while ago I plugged it into my desktop and ran the test again, slightly better but similar results. Probably because the OS is not running on the SSD being tested.

I would try backing up the laptop OS of the SSD and format it and put it back on there with Acronis True Image WD Edition. Don't know what you could use in place of Acronis but surly some thing out there that can back up a OS drive.

The formating the SSD and see if that solves it and if not i would get on to Corsair about it as it might be RMA time.

You might also want to see what SSDLife says about your drives. It also displays TRIM status.

Okay, I backed it up, and gave it a full format (unchecked "quick format").

OUCH! That's some bad benchmarks.
It looks like the SATA controllers Write Cache is not enabled.
If your drive is full, writes could slow down. The reserve write block could have issues.
This does not explain read slow downs. Files fragmented every where?
AHCI NCQ (4K QD32) is only doubling your speed. But the increase means it must be enabled.
But, you tried it in you desktop.
RMA time?
