Im building a new rig and making the switch to AMD. Ill be blunt and say i pretty much have zero experience with AMD hardware but i cant see it being too different then all my Intel systems. Anyway this being my first AMD system i wanted to get some advice on how good of system i have built thus far.

CPU: AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor

CPU Cooler: CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

MEMORY: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

PSU: SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Those are the essentials, I dont think the case and HD are crucial parts but for those wondering I have a AMD Radeon HD 6800 in my current system Im just gonna put into this.

Not bad. I have the UD3 in my room, but I have not looked at it yet so I cannot say how it compares to the UD5 I am using. The only thing I would change is the RAM. Native speed for AMD BD is 1866 MHz. While the APUs showed a slight drop in performance going from 1600 to 1866, a Bulldozer chip will increase performance as it should. Density is on you though. I thing 16 GB is complete overkill unless you are playing to do video editing.

about the CPU cooler though. reviews say Antec Kuhler 620 runs cooler, quieter and is cheaper than (or same price as?) the H50.

May I ask why you're not going Intel this time around? I would suggest a Sandy Bridge system.

@TheLaughingMan I felt like 16GB was bit over kill aswell ill check out some 8gb kits at 1866 MHz and re-post when i find something

@Anusha I checked that out and looks good going by reviews and oddly enough newegg has pretty much stopped selling the H50. So that makes the 620 my new cooler.

@theJesus I cant say i have any hard evidence that AMD is better than Intel and IMHO I think its all a matter of preference. With that said I have literally never used an AMD system and never got to tinker with one so id like to give a full AMD system a try before I pledge my allegiance to one make or the other. Other than that, why I want the FX-8120 is obviously because its got 8 cores and can be over clocked and I'm making the assumption in a year or so it will be that much better. I took a similar gamble when i got the quad core right when that first came out. Id like the system to have some longevity to it.

AshesOfThePlope if u r going to use some do some converting i think the 8cores will come in handy and do some good work, ino that many took the Phenom X6 for converting jobs instead of the i7 cpu's bcs it was cheaper and did the jobs good when came to price vs. performance.
