Benchmark Scores This varies from one driver to another.
I'm not defending consoles, I don't even have one to that matter, but my video card alone cost as much as a 360. So, the price of consoles are no where near a computer made to play games. Also you needent worry about specs. To a lot of people, that's what they want - hassle free gaming. Online gaming, well that's user dependent. Price of games, almost the same where I live, perhaps a few bucks more expensive.

If you have to spend a 1000 bucks+ on your PC every 6 months just to keep up with the games, it's going to turn people off. And with PCs also, it doesn't just end with upgrading one thing, everything now is so dependent on the other. You get a new graphics card, ohh you need a more powerful PSU to run it. You decide you upgrade your aging CPU, hmm new mobo and RAM too.

What I'm saying is, if game producers can't figure out how to make a good looking game that doesn't choke a high end system to pieces, they're going to loose sales. Loss of sales = decline in the over all market. Some places where I live have already taken their PC games section down, because they weren't selling, whilst the consoles were. Guess we'll see what the scores for this game really are when it gets released.

-Dan

That same example can be said to those who have to buy a HCDP video card and...drum roll...a new HDCP monitor if they want to see HD DVD at their intended resolutions because of Vista's DRM schemes. Some say, "Why not buy a HD dvd player?" Well the answer is 2 fold:
1st HD/BR DVD players are very expensive and some people are not interested in buying another player just to box the old one.
2nd Some have their HD TV's setup already to work from their computers. All they wanted to do was add a HD/BR player instead of having to go the other route.
One of the reasons why a lot people will buy PS3 or the newer 360 (if that confirms to be true). You get the benefit of both gaming and HD movies all in one. Even if there is no standard as of yet, some with the extra scrap will take the risk.

That made no sense, here is a link and also here that states otherwise (DX10 being used).

Well I can't read that first of all. Secondly, even if THOSE vids are in DX10 - all previous videos out of Crysis have been on current DX9 hardware and OS's, that was my point. It's not like the developers had some magical DX10 cards and Vista for the past 3 years.

Buy a Wii??

I think the Wii is a wonderful gaming machine, but I love my PC games. Heck, I spend way to much time in front of the computer as it is... there is no way I could make time to play games on the Wii. My kids on the other hand would love it!!

Besides, I can still play all the other PC games available right now. The X850XT even does pretty good with the extremely demanding Oblivion. If Crysis (or any other future PC game) is really this demanding, then I will not be able to play it for a few years. I envy those that can afford the $400-$500 video cards... but at the same time, that is all I had to spend to put my current system together: ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard, AMD 3800+ X2, Radeon X850XT, 1 GB of PC3200 memory, plus the drives.

I have a hunch that the final version of Crysis will not be this demanding... simply because that would hurt their sales tremendously. And as we all know, "money talks".

The ones seeming to get mad at these benchies are the ones who probably went out and bought DX10 "supposed hardware" because of Crysis and it was newer. Get over it. The fact is, its still early. Eventually, a patch will be releases (probably in the next couple of months when the game comes out) to fix a majority of the issues. Dont get mad and upset just because a lot of folks were saying to wait because DX10 cant be that good out the gate. Its proven. Screen shots or not, I dont think anyone in the gaming industry would purposefully hurt their scores like this.

Agreed,..... and if this is true....and becomes popular knowledge.......how will it effect ATI's forthcoming sales on the R600?

the numbers seem a bit low but remember this is just a benchmark, there is no telling what real time gaming is going to be like. I would point at the benchmarks for games like doom 3 or HL2, doesn't matter if you score pretty low, there are only going to be 4 or 5 instances in the game that are that intensive and are going to slow down to a slide show. Chances are playing this game at up to 1600x1200 with 4x AA and 4 AF will be perfectly playable on a single 8800GTX.

I think there is enough vested in Crysis to make the developers (and any company that puts their time/money into it) realize that if your audience can not play the game, they simply will not buy the game. I don't even think there is a full percent of the market that is currently running 8800GTX SLI, do you really think that small number of people would be enough sales revenue to even pay the guy who brought the coders their hot pockets and soda? General rule tends to be 2 generations old is fine. Anyone with an x1800/7800 or above shouldn't have anything to worry about for playing this game at higher settings. Granted if this game is being pushed as the most realistic game ever it is in their best interest for them to be able to back that statement up on as much hardware as possible, and not just the premium crowd with the big wallets.

Im sure the game wont be out until everyone at least has an affordable DX10 upgrade path in front of them from Nvidia and ATi that can actually play the game with the right settings enabled.

But still, I do find it quite funny that every time a new graphics card come out and destroys the benchmark suites of the time everyone says "what the hell, what game will EVER use that kind of power!?!?" then a game like this rolls out such shocking numbers and everyone says "OMG wtf kind of hardware do I need for this game, nothing can play it!".
The games get more demanding, so the hardware makers pull something out of their sleeve, and then the games get more demanding, its just a cycle.

I'd take these benchmarks - based on a prerelease copy of the game, a prerelease copy of drivers , on and OS that was just released today. Especially with a garbage PhysX card. With a grain of salt.

Exactly :). Once Crysis is optimized a bit, the speed problems will be resolved. Those movies had to be taken somehow. The only available drivers for DX10 are in beta right now (for the green camp, ATI went WHQL yesterday and got a performance increase over XP), so that definitely affects framerate. And the OS was released just today, what do you expect ;). And after you add PhysX, the whole system just has too much crap to render, and doesn't quite know how to do it due to driver/game inefficiencies. In short, I think the benchmarks ain't fake, but they certainly do show that NVIDIA and Crytek have some work to do.

Exactly. This "pre-release alpha concept demo" is probably working in "debug" mode... ie. additional code and logs being generated. It will also be working WITHOUT optimisations... since optimisations will be hardware specific.
