I think AMD has all the reasons in the world to love their APUs to death.

In the CPU segment, they can't hope to compete toe-to-toe with Intel.
In the GPU segment, they are competing toe-to-toe with nVidia, and successfully.
In the APU segment, they have no competition. And Intel can't come and steal AMD's cheese in that market.

So yeah, pushing the APUs seems to me like an extremely smart move on their part.

In the CPU segment, they can't hope to compete toe-to-toe with Intel.

Not really the case in all markets...

In CPU low end and mainstream...AMD CPUs provide the same performance for a much lower price

In the Server market Interlagos 12C is right on Westmere 6C with a much lower price and Interlagos 16C is between Westmere 8C and 10C with much lower prices(I mean much lower prices 6282 SE is $1000-1100 and Westmere 10C variants are within $3000-$5000 huge difference)

With no Sandy Bridge-E competition against the Interlagos CPU anytime soon(Interlagos already has 2P and 4P motherboards available while Sandy Bridge-E only has 1P..since the price to get one i7 3960+1P Motherboard is the same price as two 12C Interlagos+2P Motherboard, If CPU over GPU is the problem I would go for Interlagos over Sandy Bridge-E)

High-end depends on the application...

i am talking about improvement on the same clock .higher frequency isnt an improvement

Same frequency 50% less TDP

So for Trinity to have the same clocks as Llano....

Trinity "A8-3870K" comparible
3.0GHz CPU
600MHz GPU
~50W TDP

That is why they were able to get 17W Trinity parts(They are the same frequencies as the 35W Llano part)

There is a few rumours going around trying to explain why TDP is halved with Trinity and Vishera*....but most of them revolve around 32nm-SHP not being complete

*1/3rd

It is getting better and better. Well can't wait for the ultrathins and hope for tablet/notebook combo variants more than today's two options. Well in the portable market and maybe in the large portion of prebuilt office type computers APUs will rock solid. Well time will tell, but I am very optimistic about this.

25% X86 but no mention of clock speed comparison, and remember how much faster BD was supposed to be than Thuban per core... a shitty play on numbers.

25% increase in performance per clock would be damn sweet! I hope, for the sake of humanity, that they won't screw this up. Fingers crossed!

It's 25% higher clocks for the same IPC

It was more of this^ 16x Integer SSE4.1
Bulldozer Version 1 is heavily aimed at Integer XOP/SSE4.1/4.2/AVX/FMA4 workloads
Bulldozer Version 2E(Trinity) is heavily aimed at above +FMA3
Bulldozer Version 2L(Vishera) is aimed at improving SSE2-SSE3 performance
With Bulldozer Version 3 aimed at improving Floating Point Performance

Transcoding is done via Integer workloads not Floating Point workloads
X.264 Integer
H.264 Integer
FLAC Integer
and so on

so when you see AMD Performance on Digital Media Workloads that means Integer performance has gone up!

Everyone is, but in the back of their mind they worry about the flops we have experienced with Phenom, Bulldozer and their marketing and disclosures.

Not as much though, since ATI technology is involved.

I say no chance of any competition on the high end, but they said it was for "mainstream" systems anyway, so everybody needs to be realistic. This is not meant to hold anything against Intels top chips.

Now if you could somehow get amd fans to understand this... Amd products arent bad just in s different league from intel. Their graphics division rules though...totally

The article says; FM1 and FM2 are not compatible with each other. But how about FS1 and FS1r2? It would be awesome to upgrade my Vostro 3555 to Trinity... will be possible?

A quick search of all he PR bullshit that AMD spewed out without any numbers of reality on them show that per "module" was the overwhelming way they tried to spin it realizing how poor the performance actually was, of course only using standards that have yet to be adopted.

Typical AMD, hey, we can do this new thing 2X faster than the other guys. Nevermind that no one is using it yet, and by the time they do we will be three generations beyond this processor, we can do it NOW....

ATI did the same thing with CTM, Stream, and other apps.

Hey guys, does anyone know a rough ETA of when these new APU's are going to be released? My sister is looking at buying a new laptop and I was hoping she could wait to get these, but she can't wait too long as she needs it for university in a month or so.
Thanks.

These Trinity laptops will hit the stores in May-June, so do not wait her that so long. However the first generation Fusion laptops are pretty awesome as well.
