Hello all, long time since i posted here...Here i am to get some info from you, and what woud you do if you were in my shoes :)

A frend of mine has a shop here in my town, and an 6870 from Gigabyte the OC one with 915Mh core, with the long PBC "29cm", wich didnt fit in an customers case... He had it now in his shop for about 2 monts, and cant seel it...
He has an 6950 to, wich was the card i was first interested for...

Now the deal is this:

I want to save money to upgrade my CPU,MB, ram in like 6 months time...

The price on Gcards is like this:

6950 for 260euro, thats the full price, and cant get it cheaper in my country, the price on the net for the exact same card is 264euros and i pay 4 euros for shiping, so 268euro for 6950

The deal for the 6870 however is 140euros, and on the net the cheapest i coud find was 187euros+shiping...

is an 6870 a solid upgrade from my 4870? the price diferince is huge 6870vs6950, but dont want to buy someting now and sell it in 6 monts again.. then its beter to buy the 6950 and im ok for 2 years or so :)

my monitor res. is 1600x900

well the 6870 should be fine as you should be able to overclock that particular one well due to its good cooler and good components, also it would be fantastic for your 1600x900 screen. Especially with that big price difference, I would lean towards the 6870. If you had a 1080 p screen or more than I would suggest the 6950. Also, in a year you could possibly buy another 6870 for crossfire as they scale VERY well so yeh I would get the 6870 and that would also mean you could buy more higher end cpu, mobo and ram. :)

I'd also say that the 6870 is a good buy now especially if you want to save for a new machine. As for the upgrade from the 4870 it should be around 30% faster plus DX11.

FOr the price difference, definitely get the 6870. It's slightly less powerful than 2 4870's in CF.

Sounds like a good deal on the Gigabyte but you may want to make sure it allows voltage increases. Cause the Gigabyte 6850 overclock version doesn't but the regular version does.

Had time to play a litle with it for the past 3 days... it realy dosent have voltage contol, but it overclocks great. i maneged to 1000mh core and 1200mh ram, furmark and 3dmark11 stable.
Never went above 69c in furmark and 37c idle. It gives me a score of 4596 in 3dmark11, and great frames in BF3 on high, MoAA off"if its called like that", AAx16...

Wery satisfied with the purchase :toast::toast:

Nice, just for comparison I score P4450 in 3dmark11 with no over clocking on the video card
