ok heres the bottom line. how important is Z68 over P67 if at all when it comes to the IVY BRIDGE CPU? also what about GEN 3? Is it more marketing the anything or does will it matter?
thx

Both chipsets will support Ivy Bridge. Board partners will just need to update bios.

excellent :]
hows this board? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0373371
or
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI S...
or
GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD4 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA...

any preferences guys?

looking for a neutral black color or red/black. blue wont work and p67 and gen3 until further info says different

It's funny. You are moving from a MIVE P67 to an Asrock Z68 Gen3. I just did the opposite.

I had the Extreme 4 Gen3. If the E3 is anywhere near as good, it's a really solid board. Good enough that you will hardly miss the MIVE.

i love my ud4. i have a maximus, ud7, gd80 (g3), pro and a few others... all solid boards... but the z68xp-ud4 has been my favorite of the bunch by far... high bclk, hyper friendly, vid states work properly, it has pwm frequency control, the list goes on and on. im 110% happy with my ud4.

ud7 is the least favorite. its finniky... granted once you get it running right, its fast, but the setup... failed oc recovery... and general boot stability were things i wish were greatly improved. everything that is "wrong" with the ud7 works perfectly fine on ud4

for a 24.7 overclock anything over an 8 phase power design is more than enough. 16 phases will hold my chip at 5.8+ for an indefinate period of time before smoking the board. if you really really really want pcie3, then go for it... the ud3 pwm delivery is more than adequate... but the technology wont be really utilized or important for a few years to come. we havent even saturated a 16x 2.0 to the point to where 3.0 even matters.

ended up with ASROCK Z68 EXTREME4 GEN 3. the UD4 I had had issues and microcenter didn't have more in stock

funny thing - after reading up on things and getting a great deal i ended up with the ASUS WS REVOLUTION, I havn't fired it up yet but the build quality on this board is best i have seen yet
