1155 - Sandy Bridge Mobo

Sorry for the double threads but i feel this needs its own.

Hello,

so i might be in the market for a new/second hand 1155 motherboard... depending on the outcome of this thread.
what i would like is the cheapest Z68 board i can find that will still be able to clock an i5 2500k to 4.5/4.8ghz..

i have had a look around at the cheaper boards but im not exactly sure what to look for. the cheaper boards all seem to lack VRM cooling... witch i think is important?

just need some guidance in choosing.

MSI P67A-GD53 is an awesome board. Its gotten a lot cheaper since its release.

and browsing that umart website makes me want to kill myself

I'm using a P67 variant of that MSI. (p67 g45)

I can happily hit 4.5Ghz on air. And that limit is more to do with cooling than the motherboard. I should have gotten my watercooling loop sorted, I have all the components i need now i have just been lazy. But i'm confident that my msi will push 5.0Ghz if the CPU is capable of that speed. Be warned not all I5/I7's are good overclocking chips.

The biggest difference in the 2 motherboards is the Asrock has an additional 2x sata ports. Both motherboards have 2x pcie 16x slots (the third one on the asrock is not pcie16x).

At the price point you have listed tho $110-125 you could buy a brand new motherboard in the z68 format. And you would also get your guarantee on the motherboard from the manufacturer. This is important as Umart may send you a like for like product. And this may mean at a later date if things go wrong you could end up getting a replacement motherboard you truly hate or that makes a colour co-ordinated rig look wrong.

Not disrespecting the MSI board, but the Asrock would have everything you need, along with good looks. Not too fond of MSI myself on a personal level with having a few older boards burn up on me and one come DOA to friends doorstep.

Im currently using this board right now and from egg comments 4.5ghz is doable.

needs 4 Ram slots, sorry should have specified that in the first post.

I have to go with coolhand here, the ASRock Z68 has more phases and is will ultimately OC better than the MSI

lets not forget ASrock is Asus sister company (most parts used on the boards are Asus grade=same supplier ),same power delivery ,Offset mode =no problem ..unlike MSI ,etc
P.S. the warranty/support probably better than Asus lol

the AsROCK Extreme4 Gen3 board wasnt great according to bit-tech's review

good overclocker though but it lagged behind the Asus and MSI boards.

ok was...my bad , it's still uses same supplier ,tech and even same Overclockers,pretty much connected to some extend (that's why their MB's are so affordable)
