Taiwanese heavyweight ASUS has now rolled out in the US its newest U Series ultra-thin laptop, the U32U(-ES21) featuring a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display and an AMD 1.65 GHz E-450 APU with Radeon HD 6320 graphics.

ASUS' machine is one inch thick and has a hairline aluminum cover, 4 GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard drive, a 0.3-megapixel webcam, Altec Lansing speakers, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3-in-1 card reader, a HDMI output, and an 8-cell battery enabling up to 10 hours of operation. The U32U-ES21 can be found on Amazon priced at $449.99.

No USB3 though. Still pretty nice imo. 13.3 inches is pretty much the sweet spot for laptops imo.

More a "laptop" than a "netbook". +1 for the VGA. +1 for the full sized cursor keys. +1 for a matte screen. But at 13.3" the resolution could be one notch higher. And the webcam could do with an upgrade.

I'd love me one of those with a trinity apu and a decent quality screen,

my gf bought a 1215B which is pretty similar, but the horizontal viewing angles are horrible, if you are looking at it with a slightly less then optimal angle the black becomes light grey and all the colors become crap.

However it does play things like WoW at respectable minimum framerates.

Good to know, thanks for the info/warning.

so people still buy amd

been waiting for this, was looking at the 1215b, but with horrible reviews and the fact that 22 screws must be removed to change the hard drive, i decided against, this seems perfect for me, but as usual, i have to wait for acer to make 1 that i can actually use

because compared to Intel Atoms - AMD APUs are a lot lot better.

Asus could have kitted the laptop up with an intel i3 though so i suppose the APU was to keep it slightly more affordable.

Can you play L4D2 and COD MW with an atom and intel graphics? I can with my E450 brazos laptop with near identical specs to this one ;)

Why is it people seem to think that for AMD to compete they have to beat the Intel high-end completely ignoring the other 95% of the market?

yea - cuz it is dirt cheap. altho this E-450 is weaker then old celeron Mobile and graphich preformance is weaher than Sandys IHD 3000, but nothing from Sandy is so dirt cheap

Too thick and too heavy to be called an Ultra-Thin or Ultra-Portable laptop, IMO.

Agreed, but as it's only 1 inch thick (2.54 cm) that doesn't really matter imo.

This laptop support USB 3.0

Actually the graphics are just about as fast as each other.
That aside, I'd like a slice of trinity please in that book.

Oh by the way, these will be priced from 499€ to 549€ in Europe [source]. That's not even close to 449$ and well withing the range of a Sandy Bridge laptop of the same size.

Asus, i want to like you, but get your pricing right. Not too many people will pay 400€ for a 11" Zacate laptop or 500€ for a 13" one. Though i happily paid Lenovo 300€ for a 11" one a year ago :D
