My budget is about 200$, and my frien budget a little bit more, 250$

You have a collective budget of $450. Upgrade your friends' rig with your parts and have him give you his part.

That's not the intention. I'm not going to sell my parts to my friend.

I wanted to give him the 2 worst pieces of my computer instead of throwing them into a box.

His motherboard is compatible with the 720, but he is using DDR2, and it's quite expensive to buy a pair of GB. That's why we think about a new motherboard (arround 50€).

The budget can't be joined.

OK so then you are working with $200. Upgrade your gpu.

EDIT:

Also, why not? You're parts 2nd hand are worth about that...... and they are going to someone you know, so if he/she has a problem you will be right there in case an RMA or help is needed(unsure of how close this friend is).

Americans have problems with voltage, this is why people suggest brand psu.
I still have a crappy psu, for a year and it is working perfect.
If u have money buy a brand psu.
Also, I can overclock my cpu from 3.1 to 3.7 with no problems at all, with a crappy psu.
So there is no problem, at the power u will be using.

No. Though, I have used a "crappy" PSU for a year or so without issue, the fact of the matter is they are "crappy" PSU's due to the crap components used to build them. Your personal experience doesn't equate to the overall problem of "crappy" PSU's.

Lyndonguitar's parts he mentioned in his post above are a good selection.

My friend is my sister's husband. Is this said brother-in-law?

I stay many weekends at his home, and selling that parts him is quite like an abuse. That's why I 'm going to give that parts for free.

K, then what I said still stands but your brother in law will get the major overhaul. Buy yourself a new gpu. He gets the i3 2120 / s1155 board / 2x4GB ram and your old gtx460 1gb.

Well, after all this mess, I conclude that the mixing wasn't a good idea.

All this started because his graphic card is dead.

If mixing parts have no sense, he probably would like to just buy a new graph, save the money and use his current pc until he can.

ATI 5670 / 6670 / 6750 / would be fine.

Listen to me.
Buy a phenom II x2 555 (if u find any, or a 550 like mine)
Buy the motherboard Asus M4N68T M LE V24 (u have a chance to unlock the cpu to 955BE! [like mine did :)])
Buy crappy psu
Find a 9600GT (at least possible, but if cpu unlocks, than buy higher potential card)
This would be the best overall for money
This was my strategy a year ago and it worked perfect for just 150$! (mobo + ram + psu + cpu)

you're an idiot don't listen to this guy

Been since 2009 and this is the first offence
Anyway, give explanation where am i wrong?
Why u used the word 'idiot', i didnt offend you.
Cuz, it just seems people want to be against me.
I too have had problems on this forum when i wanted to buy the motherboard.
A lot of people told me: "Not enough potential to unlock, don't be a fool"
All things turned up the opposite.
"Don't buy that cpu, it is not garanteed to unlock"
And it unlocked. And it overclocked.
That is a strategy to save money, not that i am suggesting the best possible.
The crappy psu is to save money too and the gpu, not that they are the best.
For me u better be with a GTX 550 or 7770HD

I'm not an expert as you can see, but, don't you think that GPU are too powerful for a low-end computer?
Has the pc enough PSU? (Yes, I think, that psu feed a HD2900XT about 5 years ago)

Friend's PC:
Athlon 64 x2 4200
Themaltake Blue Orb
1x2gb DDR2 800
ATI 2600 HD (dead) --> ¿?
LC Power 550W
Asus M4A78-EM

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
Depends how old... the older a PSU gets, the worse it gets in terms of power... That same 2900XT will pop it if its too old.

@wachu
With powerful i think u mean wattage right?
GTX550 Ti consumes 116 watt (not exactly, but around)
HD 7770 consumes 80 watt
HD 7750 consumes 55 watt
Best for your system and not taking too many dangers in, would be 7750.
Here is why:
My 9500GT uses nearly 50Watt (a little more)
Now i can overclock from 3.1 to 3.7 Ghz my cpu, so i think 550watt psu can handle.
The 7750 would be best, less consuming and latest tech.
(I have crappy psu used a year)
Note that i am considering u will upgrade your mobo + cpu
Otherwise find a used 9600GT or ATI 4770 (can be found cheap) if u want to upgrade the gpu, without changing anything else.
Mind though that they consume a lot of power.

I think it's easy, but I can't explain it good. (remember i'm not english speaker)

If mixing parts have no sense for you , then my computer will stay without changes.
In this case, my friend will just buy a new graphic card for his old computer.

None of us want to buy a new pc.
We think about the mixing to improve a little spending less money.

I see. Well your brother in law could use your processor in his current board. I foresee that being the only major thing to change in his (other than new video card). Yours, maybe as well, depending on your daily use.
