multiplyer go up and down after running prime95

i have a overclocked 2500k and after 2 minutes i run prime 95 blend test , i found that the cpu usage is staying at 100% but my multipler is going up and down .... is that normal??

for your info my base clock wa set to 100 mhz ...my multipler was set to 40 and cpu voltage is 1.245volt

if that is not normal please help me solve it .. please

most likely it is Intel Turbo or speedstep,turn off your C states if you want it to go away

SpeedStep shouldn't activate if the processor is under significant load. It sounds more like his motherboard VRMs are throttling due to heat.

I agree with this. It sounds like the Multi is dropping due to heat.

It might be the turbo boost power limit or, we don't know what cooling the OP has, might be thermal throttling.

prime85 and also intel burn test dont really overload your processor overtime with same amount of loads, so if you enabled speedstep feature, the multiplier and processor frequency will be up and down depend on load given by those stress tools, or maybe you're right about the vrm are throttling due to heat

i am having a corsair h60 running on my system, the temperature was 55 degree Celsius and i has disable the turbo boost ........but the multiplyer is still going up and down after i run prime 95 blend test. can anyone help me on that or is it normal???

You are going over the turbo power limits. Most lower end boards with 4+1 phases have very low wattages that they throttle when its goes over that amount.

Go into advanced CPU Core features and change the Turbo Power Limit from Auto to let's say 200
(this is Watts). Leave everything else on default/auto and set the multiplier to x40.
